*Pay at Aetna- Details on job*

Could anyone give me some insight on working for Aetna? Im interested in pay, job satisfaction, flexibility, a day on the job, etc. I'm interested in jobs like Case management, Utilization Review nurse or any Registered Nursing positions.

Is your interest in a job with Aetna or possibly a company it owns called American Health Holding? Aetna has a much better pay scale than AHH and cm leave AHH at a very high rate

I recently applied for and was offered a RN Case Manager position with Aetna. I didnt take it!. The salary offering was really low. Much lower than I expected from a company that large. I later took a CM position at a hospital that actually paid about 10K more. But! i must stress that people have said insurance compaines pay different than hospital settings SO you may have to take my comment with a grain of salt lol.. let me know if you need more information

I was just offered a workers comp field nurse case manager position at Aetna. I don't have any case manager experience, I'll be coming straight from bedside. They offered me $80,000 (although this is an hourly position which breaks down to $38.46/hr). This is a pay cut for me as I'm in Los Angeles and I currently make $47/hr after only 2 1/2 years experience. Don't know if I will take it yet. I asked for more and was expecting at least to be offered $85,000, but they are saying this is non negotiable, especially since I don't have the experience.

Yes!! They say it's non negotiable so I guess you should tell them that's what you want and if they want you bad enough they MAY pay. But you run that risk. Money is not everything so if it means your sanity then by all means take it. I have taken a lower paying job purely for professional development and ended up making 20k more in the long run. Best of luck

Stand your ground on not taking a pay cut. They generally use an outside recruiter and they lowball everybody and say they will not negotiate.... Good luck!

I tried to answer you private msg. Typed a big long reply and when I hit send it said I was not allowed to send private messages..sigh and deleted it...sigh. Any way learn the WC reg inside and out, and work well with the adjuster. I LOVE the fact that in your state the laws say a case manager has to be paid hourly!

Yes, from my interviews I can tell that employers are not thrilled about having to pay case managers hourly in California which means time and a half when there is over time. One of the interviewers tried to say "you all are professionals, it sort of dumbs down your role with hourly pay"....uh, yeah ok, if you want me to believe that I'm of less value because I get paid hourly for the work that I actually do and am not as "professional" then keep dreaming! lol. I really think all nurse case managers should be paid hourly.

Me too! Employers, not the case managers, are the only people who benefit from salary or case-by-case (aka production) pay. Case Managers tend to work more than what they are being paid if he/she is not being paid by the hour. I will never ever work as a front-line CM without being paid hourly again!
