Patients that are hospitalized because of a dare...

Published

How many of you nurses took care of a pt hospitalized due to a dare?? If so what's your story...I took care of a patient that ruptured his esophagus because a friend dared him to swallow a shrimp whole. Unfortunately, the man died a couple days after surgery. Has anyone seen bizarre cases like this one?

Hey TXstudentRN,

I have to say that I don't watch grey's anatomy so, the thread didn't come from the season finale...though the season finale seems interesting. I do watch House...not that this matters. I was just curious...it seems that people don't think and in my patient's case it eventually cost him his life.:(

I used to work with a couple of nurses who went down to California to play nurses on an episode of 'ER.' One of them got hired on as a consultant. Interestingly enough, there was an episode in which a patient fell through the ceiling - that had occurred a week or so before at the hosptial where we worked.
