So I took the NCLEX RN yesterday. Everyone in my class passed with 75 questions. So when I hit submit on 75... I just assumed. Then it went on to 76... 77.. 78 and so on. Finally (as I was expecting it to go to 265) it just shut off around 150. I wasn't even keeping track anymore because I was so frustrated. I'm sure I got the last question wrong... I cried most of the day. Wondered why in the world I did all of this.. Then woke up today to find out I passed.
I just wanted to let anyone know if you get more than 75 and you possibly got the last question wrong.. there is still hope for you!

Congratulations Jen on passing Nclex! That is so exciting and encouraging to hear.. I'm still studying for mine coming up and my gosh it is overwhelming! Is it okay if I ask you how you studied and when you actually began studying for nclex, if you don't mind? Any suggestion/encouragement would help me out a lot. Again, congratulations on your accomplishment! I, too, hope to pass mine in 10 days! :)

Congratulations! I did plenty of obsessing over the last question (went all 265, last question was an easy, straightforward math question). There are so many "theories" out there about that last question--above the line/below the line, get it right/get it wrong, not the last question but the one before... It was maddening. There's just no knowing until the results post.
Hi Tumbler,
If you don't mind, can I ask you what you mean by those "theories"? Sorry, I'm a little late and haven't heard about them..
Hello! I took the live Hurst review. It was a nice content review... I suggest focusing on the fluid and electrolytes.. really having a good basis of those so you are able to critically think of the outcomes if something were to go wrong. I also did do the Kaplan online Qbank. The questions were more similar to the NCLEX and the format is almost exactly the same. I also bought the NCLEX mastery app for my phone. That was nice because I could just go through questions at my convienence and I always had it with me (waiting for the kids at practice.. breaks.. etc).
Good luck! You'll do great!! It's a doozy but if you concentrate and put your mind to it you will be fine.
Also, I probably studied for about 2 weeks.
Theories (or at least things that have been posted about that last question):
1. At 265, get the last questions right and pass, get it wrong and fail.
2. At 265, it's not the last question by the one BEFORE it. If it was higher level and you got it right, then you pass because then the last question was above the line.
3. The last question must be above the line. Math/computation questions are lower level (and my last question was a math question--an easy one)
'Twas maddening, I tell you. Of course, I couldn't stop obsessively looking for "clues" on allnurses, so in some respects, I brought a lot of anxiety on myself.

Who told you math calculations are lower cognitive level? Was that person an expert in Blooms Taxonomy and educational pedagogy? The truth regarding running out of time and needing 265 questions to demonstrate competency (or not) are clearly explained on the NCLEX FAQ on the NCSBN.org website (the creators of the NCLEX exam) so you can go to the source for the truth.
Of course they are. I have an earlier post thanking people like yourself for providing level headed advice, but there are posts out there that state with an air of certainty that all of those "theories" are gospel, including the one about math.
