PASSED The NCLEX!! What I used to prep.

Published

Hey guys,

So if you follow me on IG (link in my profile) you will see that I told all my followers that I would share what I did and used to pass the dreaded NCLEX.

First and foremost, I think everyone should assess how comfortable they are coming out of school and their ability to pass. Myself, I used ATI and some other predictors while in school that I scored pretty high on.

After seeing how well I did on the predictors, I really did not think I needed any CONTENT based practice for instance: Hurst or Kaplan. I felt what would really benefit me the best would be just studying NCLEX style questions.

With that being said on January 4th I bought a 60 day uWorld package that included an assessment. I really didn't need the 60 days, but the only way to get the one assessment was by buying the 60 day question bank.

My NCLEX was scheduled for the 23rd so essentially I gave myself a little under 3 weeks to prep.

Let me say, I was a good student in nursing school, graduated with a 3.7 GPA, so I really didn't "struggle" per say. If you felt you struggled during nursing school, then maybe you may need a more content based studying along with uWorld. This is just what worked for me.

5 days a week I would do 75-100 questions a day. I did not sit down and do all of these at one sitting. I know a lot of people say to do that, but I would get bored (honestly) so I didn't do that myself. I always did uWorld on the "tutored" option up until 3 days before where I practiced doing 75 questions timed to help prep me for the upcoming exam.

I ended up getting through approximately 1300 questions, almost at a 60% competency. uWorld recommends its users to be scoring 60% after completion of their entire question bank.

As I stated, I did not complete the entire question bank before the NCLEX, I only got to 1300 in 19 days, which means I averaged around 70 a day, give or take. As I said, I really only did it 5 days a week. Im not the type of person who sits in front of a computer for hours on end to study.

Another piece of advice, it may be a good idea to purchase the question bank with the 2 assessments so that you can see how much you have gotten better by comparing your first and second assessment. You could do the first one to see where you stand when you begin and the 2nd one a couple days before taking the exam.

Additionally, I did not study at all the day before or the day of. I did not even look at one question. My advice is to chill those days because honestly you are not learning anymore the day before an exam. You know what you know, don't stress yourself.

I passed in 75 questions with 1/3rd of the exam consisting of SATA and a couple drag and drop. Overall, I did not think the exam was really all that bad. uWorld helped me so much. The question content, how they're worded and even the color and font are identical on the NCLEX.

Also, forgot to add, make sure you read rationales in uWorld for each question. They're very detailed and will stick in your head.

HIGHLY recommend uWorld to anyone prepping for the NCLEX!!

I am soo happy to finally be Alex, RN. Any of you guys take the NCLEX this week and pass? How many questions did you get?? Did Pearson Vue trick work for you?? (It worked for me). Let me know below

xo, Alex
