Passed NCLEX second try...

Published

Hey guys! So I decided to tell my story about taking the NCLEX. The first time I took it was Dec 2013 I had 160 questions and finished it in four hours. I did the pearsonvue trick a couple of hours later and it went to the CC page. I was extremely devastated and three days later long behold a letter in the mail confirming that I failed. I was an emotional wreck when I took my exam - I was having family and relationship problems during the time and I couldn't focus.

The second time I took it was Feb 17, 2014 and it stopped at 75 questions and I probably took 2 hrs or less. I walked in that testing center with confidence and walked out of the testing center with a big grin on my face and did a fist pump in the air because I knew in my heart that I passed. Long behold, a couple hours of waiting I had the guts to do the pearsonvue trick again and I got the good pop up. I was soooo happy! All my hard work paid off! I did a lot of things differently during the second time I took it. Do a lot of practice questions! I was doing at least 150 questions per day.

Things I did the second time around (reviewed everything below for 3 weeks)

  1. Extended my Kaplan course just for the questions
  2. NCLEX 4000
  3. The Kaplan book that came with the Kaplan course
  4. Prioritization, Delegation, and Assessment by LaCharity
  5. Saunders cd for more questions
  6. PRAY PRAY PRAY!

If I can do it, you can do it! I graduated with Cum Laude and was a fair student (A/B average). Don't be discouraged if you didn't pass the first time around. Everything happens for a reason. Just get yourself together and go at it again. Don't let this test make you feel incompetent because you're not! You have to believe in yourself! Be confident!

Remember to write on that wipe board when you take your exam (your name, RN, BSN). Every time I looked at my board that was the first thing I saw and it gave me confidence and wanted to try harder. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Congratulations!!

Congrats HelpfulNS.

Congratulations! I'm also using Kaplan and the PDA book. Did you find the questions to be similar to Kaplan's? I used the Hurst book to study up on some content but mostly I'm doing Kaplan questions. I'm worried that the content on the actual NCLEX is going to be stuff that I haven't been focusing on or that I don't know well.

congratulations! This is what makes a good nurse - you assessed your situation and you performed an effective intervention. And now I hope you celebrate
