Passed NCLEX-RN Yesterday!!!

Yesterday was the big day for me. I took the NCLEX yesterday early in the morning at 8 AM. Went home and did the PVT and got the "This candidate has previously passed this exam. A new appointment cannot be scheduled" popup. I was relieved but even more relieved when I checked the BON website today to find that I am officially a RN.

So how did I do it?

I took the Kaplan course online which is about $499 but I used a code and it was $449 (this was back in August). I liked the Kaplan course online and I thought it was good. It's not a content review course per se-- for the most part we reviewed questions and test taking strategies. With that said, if you're reviewing questions you are indirectly reviewing the content. I completed all the question trainers--here's my stats

Question Trainer 1: 61%

Question Trainer 2: 71%

Question Trainer 3: 62%

Question Trainer 4: 63%

Question Trainer 5: 70%

Question Trainer 6: 69%

Question Trainer 7: 65%

Diagnostic 68% Readiness test 67%

I only completed 24% of the total Qbank questions with an avg. of 64%. If I had to do it over again I would take Kaplan the course over. The Qbank was helpful. The interface is similar to that of NCLEX which is neat. As far as level of difficulty of the questions, I think Kaplan was a little bit harder than NCLEX. I did read bits and pieces of the Kaplan Course book that is included with the course. It's a nice book with some great charts but beware it's not well organized.

I also used Saunders Q & A Review for the NCLEX-RN® Examination & the LaCharity book. If you want to do questions and brush up on content I strongly suggest the Saunders book. I did not finish it--but I read about 60% of the text. I liked the LaCharity book, but like Kaplan I felt the questions were more difficult than NCLEX itself. But it definitely helps to do priority and delegation questions.

As far as the NCLEX goes, I passed with 75 questions. I had several SATA. I would definitely recommend memorizing the infection control mnemonics (e.g. MRS. WEE, SPIDERMAN, etc). My advice is to do as many questions & read the rationales esp. for the questions you got wrong. I had only a couple of med questions on there, no calculation questions. Overall, NCLEX in my opinion was pretty straight forward. Good luck to all future test-takers!!!

congrats on passing i just ordered my lacharity book

Congratulations for passing the nclex...it's so nice to read success stories from you guys and I love reading it. It also encourages me to do better in my self-review because soon I'll be taking mine too. I took nclex before and sad to say, I failed. I am hoping that I will do better next time and I know I will. Thanks for posting stories like yours, it keeps me going. :)

I took mine today..stopped at 79 lots of prioritization, immediate response, 6-7 SATA, and meds..2 or 3 are unfamiliar drugs..no calculations..at the end some psyche questions..do you think I passed?!

Congrats on passing!

Can someone please direct me or email me info on the infection control mneumonics it is definetly a weakness of mine! Thanks in advance!
