I have been out of school for 3 years and recently passed my boards the first time. The reason it took so long for me to take them was because of some criminal charges that occured right after graduation....which caused me to wait to apply for boards. Well to make a long story short... I had worked as a LPN for a few years with no negative incidences, ever. Now I have these charges that consist of a misdemeanor theft, 2 DUI's, 2 Driving after Revocations and a dismissed child neglect charge (late to pick up my son from school). These incidents are 3 years ago as well and I had my WI LPN licensed restricted for 2 years (one year left). This all was completely irresponsible and I have moved on from these mistakes. I have expressed this in my letter with license application along with all the court documents. I really want to move on with my life and get back to nursing with such motivation. I just don't know how the BON will respond and they did let me sit for my boards. After passing my boards, I am sending in the requested $50 fee along with the court documents again to the Il dept of Reg and Licensing. Does anyone know if I will ever get my license or what do I need to do to get it anytime in the future?

No one on the site can tell you yes or no if you will get your license.
Only the board can tell you that. They review every situation on a case by case basis.
If it makes you feel any better, I have a mile long rap sheet from 2000-2004.
I have made steps so that I don't make the same mistakes and I have been out of trouble since.
I believe the fact that you were honest about your crimes and you gave the board all of the court dispositions is a good thing.
Many people on this forum have lied and have suffered the negative consequences as well.
I once called the board and the person I spoke with gave me this feedback "Don't let your past prevent you from getting a license" ( I told her a little bit about my rap sheet. Accidently didn't disclose items because I had forgotten about them but I will disclose when I go to the board)
My advise to you is to pray, stay out of trouble, and continue to do positive things in your life. Don't stress about the outcome because honestly, while the board reviews your file there is nothing you can do until they contact you with the outcome.
If the outcome results in getting your license, great!!! Celebrate, and then let us know on the forum so that you can give newbies like myself hope.
If the outcome results that you do not get your license, find out what you have to do next so that you can get it one day

Hi, I recently graduated, took, and passed my NCLEX PN, however, when i received my letter from continental testing it states "YOU ARE PROHIBITED FROM PRACTICING UNTIL RECEIPT OF YOUR LICENSE." My other classmates received a letter stating that they could practice "license pending," and i am thinking it may be due to my criminal background? I have a misdemeanor domestic battery that is over ten years old, several traffic tickets, and a couple of misdemeanors that i was NOT convicted of (also more than ten yrs old). I informed the Illinois BON of all of these things, and sent certified copies of everything that wasn't traffic along with my application............... (not to mention I have been working as a cna for over 12 years; with my waiver of course) Sooo....... I am extremely worried right now; I worked very hard to get to where I am in my life at this point; if anybody has a similiar situation/ knows what the BON is doing concerning my licensure could you please share? Thank-you!
