Hi everyone!
I just passed NCLEX-RN last April 7 and right now, i'm in the process of looking for jobs. My only concern is , is it possible for me to get a job without hospital experience? I graduated BSN more than 5 years ago and since then, i didn't work as a nurse. I'm also a foreign educated nurse and i'm looking for a hospital or agency who can petition us for greencard. Do you think it's possible for me?

You won't have aproblem getting a job, BUT have you completed any of the things that you will need, such as Englsih exams if they aren't exempt for you, also have you started the Visa Screen process yet? And for which state did you take NCLEX? If it is California, you are looking at minimum of one year to 18 months before you will get you green card, much earlier if you got licensed in New York. Please tell me what else you have completed, then I will be able to tell you what to do next.
Good luck.................... :balloons:

PS
i'm excited because i will have my first interview at a hospital this friday..wish me luck! If they hire me, i hope they will also adjust my status to permanent residency :)
Go ahead and complete the paperwork for Visa Screen, you do not need to wait. Your English scores will be sent to them. That process can take you months. Have you taken CGFNS exam? If not, Florida does require it and you will not be able to take the exam until November. The deadline for the July exam was two weeks ago and they do not make any exceptions. The deadline for the November exam is mid August.
What type of visa are you currently on?
Good luck with your English exams................. :balloons:

Hi SUzanne,
Thanks for replying to my posts!
Here in Florida, foreign nurses like me can sit for an NCLEX-RN without taking cgfns. I guess Florida is one of those states that allow this.
I have an L2 visa (dependent of L1 visa holder) and I already have my SSN and EAD so i can work here in US legally. I'm just hoping that an agency/hospital will petition us for adjustment of our status to permanent residency.
Thanks!
Thanks for the heads-up on the change in Florida. But you still were required to go thru the Credentials verification?
You should haveno problem getting a job, they may just start you off at a new grad salary or request that you take a few month refresher course, but that shouldn't cause any problems for you.
One question, which books did you use for review? I always like to pass along info to my students that other foreign nurses easily passed NCLEX.
Thanks :balloons:

Hi Suzanne4,
Yes, we are still required to go thru the Credentials Verification (by CGFNS).
Regarding the books that I used for review, they are the following:
1) MOSBY Comprehensive review (CD)
2) Lippincott Book (with practice questions on CD)
3) Saunders and Kaplan CDs (practice questions- these were generously given to me by a friend)
I studied for 3 months , mostly the first month was consumed reading the Mosby Cd and the 2nd month , i tried to answer the Lippincott book and CD. DUring the last month, i just answered the saunders and kaplan cds =)
Thanks for the info. Those are the books that we are using here at my school. :balloons:
Hi suzanne4!
that's good! because they were really helpful in my review =)
