Hi fellow nurses! I am writing to share my journey on becoming a US RN. I graduated year 2007 in the Philippines and had only 6 months experience after that I got married. I first took nclex year 2010 and failed. I took it again on year 2011, 2012 (twice) 2015 and Feb 2016 and failed that one, after all that I told myself the seventh time will be my last take (took that test last June 6th) and I will just give this up I really didn't care anymore if I failed, however I also told myself since this is going to be my last I might as well do my best so I won't have regrets. It was very hard because I have 2 kids, a toddler and a 9 month old, I studied for 4-5 hrs a day, I start at 1am in the morning, go to work at 6am come home at 1pm and be a mother and wife til they go to bed at 7pm, then I have to clean up all the mess and dont actually get to rest til atleast 9pm, I was like this for 2 months!! I thought I was going to loss my mind!! But I was determined this time! I started changing the way I study, by the way the last 5 times I took it, I used the same method (which is I know is dumb) but I just thought I need more content. This time, what I did different was, I signed up for Uworld, Kaplan qbank and NCSBN for the content. I did questions everyday, I'll generate 75 questions but I finish the questions in 2 days because I was reading the rationales over and over. I also did Kaplan qbank. On both websites I was averanging 50's to 60's. 2 days before my test I listened to Hurst Review, the night before my test I was memorizing all the Lab Values, ECG's, ABG's etc. Before I went to the testing center I had a good breakfast and said a little prayer!! as soon as they had me seated and finished the tutorial, I wrote down all the normal labs and ecg's etc that I memorized the night before the test on the erasable board that they gave me. I have a tendency to completely forget something when I am panicking, which happened alot during the last 6 times I took it. So this time I tried to be calm as possible.
I took the entire test 265!! 265 y'all haha for 5 hours! I only took two 5 min breaks. My last question was a SATA so I had a good feeling that I passed since I believed that SATA is a higher level question and according to Kaplan, if you finish the entire test and your last question was a higher level question, you will pass. And I finally did!! Until now I still keep on checking my quick result to make sure it still says pass 😀
So for nurses out there please do not give up! If I made it, you will too!!! Promise!!! Also, don't forget tl pray!!! Oh and goodluck!!! Hope this helped!!!
