Passed Boards Now What?

Published

Okay so I went through the practical nursing program, studied hours on end for boards took said boards on November 6th @ 1:30pm found out I passed November 8th.

The thrill of actually passing boards still hasn't worn off but I am finding myself wondering what now. I have been job searching nonstop and all jobs I see posted and the few hospitals, clincals, agencies, etc I call all say the same thing either they are not hiring or they need more experience (non-clinical wise). Well I ask how do I get experience without a job? All throughout clinicals and class we have been working towards passing the classes and then passing boards but not once have we gone over how to actually go about getting said nursing job in today's job market.

Its only been a couple days so I am no where near giving up I just want any advice as to the job searching process when I have no experience besides clinicals and technically no license yet -- I passed but I haven't received my license and it isn't on the Georgia Board of nursing site yet.

Sincerly,

Your stated board of nursing should have you listed with a license number, since you passed. It should even be electronically available, but may take a couple of days. As for employment, are there other options you haven't explored? I know you want that first year of Med/Surg under your belt, but you need employment and experience right? What else is around your area? Long term care, government facility at usa.gov or school nurse position or home care and private duty? Good luck in your search.

I just got my license in Oct, I posted my resume on Monster and the state employment websites.

You could contact your local health department and see if they're hiring.

I'm happy to be working for the health department doing flu shots.

I was having a similiar problem but I found a job on yahoo hot jobs. Indeed.com and career builders.com are also good sites

Thanks everyone for replying. I am listed on Indeed.com, Hotjobs, Yahoo jobs, you name it I have probably created a profile. On a happy note I can officially say I'm licensed I just got my license number via email today now I'm just waiting on my pocket card.
