I took the AANP exam yesterday and PASSED! By the grace of God, and support from friends and family! I want to share with you what worked for me, as I am so thankful to all of you who posted information on how you studied and prepared for the AANP exam.
What helped the most:
1) Attending a review course right before the exam. I went to Hollier's review course last weekend and it was fantastic! She gives detailed information regarding what to study for the exam, and the topics she covers were on the exam. Her QBank was also very helpful. Go through all of them. This will give you an understanding of how the questions will be formatted. Get used to figuring out what the question is really asking. I also listened to her CD's over and over in the car every day!
2) Leiks fast facts....600 questions! Do all of them! For me, this is what helped the most, after attending the review from Hollier. Pay close attention to all the exam tips, as well as her suggestions on how to figure out the correct answer.
3) I bought 15 (I think) of the edge exams early on and found out real quick that i had a lot to learn. I studied for a few weeks, and began to retake each exam, doing better and better. The predictor exams were helpful as well. I took a few of those, closer to the end of my studies. I knew I was prepared when I did well on these tests.
3) There is no easy, quick way to go about it. I graduated in December. I took a few days off to enjoy the Holidays, but devoted approximately 6 weeks to intense studying. Most days I studied for about 4 hours, and others maybe 2 hours. You really do have to let everything else go. Each day, I tried to get away from the books, maybe hit the gym, then get right back at it. When I went to bed at night, I would replay, in my head, what I learned that day. If I could spit it back out that night, and again in the morning, it was committed to memory. So I now know the difference in studying, and quality studying. I also had a few people tell me, if you can teach it, you have it down. So, I would teach it to myself, or my kids if they were around.
If I can do it, I definitely know you can too! Put in the hours and dedicate yourself! NO distractions. Best of luck to those of you who are preparing to test! It's a fantastic feeling to finally be finished, and I'm looking forward to the many opportunities in my path ahead!
I will be glad to help any way I can if anyone has guestions ;O)
