Hi Guys,
I just moved from CA to CO in June and am now just starting to look for work. I have a couple of issues here and am feeling quite anxious about them.
First, I graduated with my LVN in May of 2005. I worked on a busy surgical floor fulltime for only 4 months until I went out on maternity leave. I loved it and felt like I was doing really well at it too. When I was about to go back to work after having my wee one (who was 3 mos at the time) my husband had a job opportunity in CO. So, we decided I wouldn't go back to work, he moved out here to CO and I stayed with our 4 children in CA until their school was finished. So ,here it is year later and I feel so rusty on my nursing skills and knowledge. I've been reading and trying to test myself:uhoh3:
Second, I am having a hard time finding pt work. All the LPN positions have been FT. Also, It doesn't appear that LPN's get utilized the same way that they did in CA. Most of the LPN work appears to be FT in SNFs. The pay doesn't appear to be close either. I was making $18+ at my old job. But, maybe I just haven't searched enough yet.:imbar Ideally I love to find something like: 4hrs in the evenings for a med pass, 2 weekend days in a hospital, or maybe at a clinic somewhere.
Thanks for letting me vent...I could go on about my prerequisites for CO nursing school for my RN but, I'll save that for another post;) :chuckle
Any advice or info would be much appreciated. TIA!:loveya:

Are there any agencies that you can apply to? They are usually very accomodating to people who wish to work the weekends. I have not heard of anyone just working 4 hours to do med passes...heck, I would do that if I were allowed.
Do you mean a temp agency? What kind of agency do you suggest?
A SNF in Chico, CA had a 4 hour med nurses position for evenings. I considered applying for that before we knew we were moving.
I did find a prn position online and I'm sending my resume over right now. It's in the ER and I'm not sure exactly what it entails but, I'm totally interested. So....we'll see. Wish me luck:)

Yes, I am talking about a temp agency. Maxim Healthcare has sites throughout the United States, I understand, and at this time, I am working through them on weekends as a flu nurse. I will be working about 4-8 hours a day (weekends, only, because I am working full time at a clinic). Search for Maxim in your browser and see if there is one in California where you live. I would have more hours if I had been available during the week. All I do is flu shots and that is it. Not bad. They also have home care and nursing home assignments.

Hi! I live in Denver to=) Welcome to Colorado!
Maxim wants at least 1 year experience and I don't have that yet. Have you found that to be different? That would be great to give flu shots. I did a flu clinic in nursing school.
