Applied on Dec 1st, the status still shows under review.
Wondering anyone was contacted by phone/email for further interview? Previous threads indicated they sent out notices very quickly.
Hi Ashley 333,
This time around, the applications closed within 12 hours of them opening so check on the website as to when the applications come out and apply first thing in the morning. A lot of my friends weren't able to apply because they closed the applications as soon as they reach a certain number of external applicants. Internal applicants get a full week from the posting date.
The interviews were done in stations. There were 7 different stations and each group of 7 interviewers sat in each room for 10 minutes and answered 1-3 questions. Every room had a manager/educator from between 1-2 units. They only asked situational questions- like how do you handle conflict or what have you done in the past that gave great customer service to a patient. You just need to use your experiences in nursing school, work, and life! The interview process was like speed dating and the managers were all really nice and friendly and open to chatting with you. Show your personality! Even if you're quiet and shy, show that you want to be a nurse there at Palomar and that you get along with just about anyone. Be excited to be there! Being a nurse is all about interacting with others and being passionate about caring for your patients so show that!
My educator said that even though we only get 10 minutes with each manager/educator, they have a pretty good gauge of who we are by how we interact with them. It's pretty true because I felt like I had a connection with my educator when I was talking to her during the interview. It felt like a conversation when I interviewed with her. This means that you should just relax and be yourself and laugh or cry (my friend cried while telling a story and she also got the job) and show your true self! First impressions are everything!
When you apply, apply to all locations and units. Don't be selective and apply to just one unit. They want their new grads to be open-minded and not be stuck in the mentality of "I only want ICU". Although there are ICU and ED spots, they still want you to be flexible and show that you are willing to learn so apply to everything and tell them that you don't care where you end up, you just want to learn.
They notified us about a week or two after the interviews whether we got the job via email.
The program is amazing and you are super supported throughout the program with classes once a week for the first 2-3 months where you learn about being policies, skills, and protocols of the hospital.
Pay is comparable to other hospitals and benefits are great as well. I got job offers at 2 other hospitals and their pay is higher than the other hospitals I got offers from. Palomar is a great place to work at!
Of course all of this can change but this was my experience and I am currently in the current New Grad group that started in Feb 2017.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!
Wow! Thank you so much for your time and effort to respond to my question. I am currently an employee and plan to do an internal application this summer when applications open. I have been with Palomar for the last 7 years (intern and later became a CNA). I love Palomar and have nothing but good things to say about them as a hospital. Glad you're having a great experience! With that said, I want nothing more than to work there as a new graduate and so I cant really thank you enough for your help!
Applications are going to go up around May or June for the August cohort, I believe. Things are always changing.
From what I have heard, internal candidates get an interview but not automatically a job. In my group of 24 new grads only 2 were internal.
I knew a few people who were internals that did not get hired so make sure you do well on your interview! Remember, BE FLEXIBLE!
Hi all, I realize this is an old thread but hoping someone can advise me. I heard the Palomar application closes early so I wanted to know if they have a questionnaire as part of it. It seems that most new grad applications have a questionnaire, but they are all very different. I'm hoping someone remembers so that I can be as prepared as possible for when the application opens. Thank you in advance!!
