Palomar College Spring 2012

U.S.A. California

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone starting this Spring at Palomar lives in Carlsbad? Palomar just contacted me last week to say I can start...needless to say I'm rushing around to get everything finished to begin. Would love to talk to someone who was at the Oct orientation. Thank you!!

I had to get them at the register. Have you bought the Med Surg Book? If so , is there one or two books with that. Did they have the clinical syllabus yet?

Yes I got the Med Surg and it was just one book but I got it off amazon so I'm not sure if that makes a difference... They didn't have the clinical syllabus yet when I went.. I'm hoping when I go back on Friday they will have that and the N103 syllabus.

Hi...thx for the tips fr orientation. I went to the bookstore today and they had everything in stock. The first person at the bookstore had no clue where they were and the next guy directed me towards the register. I am doing clinicals at Casa de Campana. Yeah not excited about getting a rolling backpack.

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of applying to Palomar, Mira Costa, and SD City College. Did any of you guys happen to fall under the new "point system". If you don't mind sharing, what was your total points? I just need to know if Im in the ballpark. Thanks!

Hey Christine33,

How has Palomar nursing school been for you so far? Anyway, I wanted to get a feedback regarding clinical sites. I've read in some of the forums that clinicals are done at a skilled nursing facility to begin with, and then hospitals late into the program, like 5-6wks before end of program. Is that the case for everyone, or does it depend on the group you're in? Thanks.

Hi Chrsitne33,

I recently graduated from Palomar ADN program. This is how it is set up:

1st semester: you will start clinicals after 1 month into the semester (give or take). Then you will go for 4 weeks at a SNF (skilled nurse facility). After that you will go to a hospital. They usually go to Palomar hospital, Scripps, tri-city, or VA. They will decide the students into those clinicals sites. You will usually have class twice a week then clinicals twice a week.

2nd semester: the focus for this semester is med/Surg, peds, and maternity. So that will be your rotations. You will spend 5 weeks on each one.

3rd semester: med/Surg, psych, geriatric. Same thing...5 weeks in each. The difference here is that your lectures will be with your rotations. So the class will be split into 3.

4th semester: med/Surg for 2 months then the last month is your preceptorship.

Good luck!!

Hi everyone, I'm in 1st semester right now. You will love school, it's so great. You will love the instructors!! I was actually supposed to start in Spring 2014 and got in early because people dropped out before school started so I also scrambled to get things done. Definitely start studying your math!! get all your book through amazon and the supplies you need for school. I'll answer any questions if you have any. Message me if you would like :) Congrats on getting in the program!! It's so awesome, greatest reputation around SD county.

For you guys that got in, how many points did you guys have on the multi criteria system? I'm wondering because I applied for Spring of 2014 and I have about 75 points and wondering what my chances are. They said they would notify people by email mid-October to tell them their status.

I dont know how many points I got, good luck to you!! Hope the best for you...let me know if you want any tips or anything :)

if you dont mind me asking, what were your stats? like if you had a BS or AA, healthcare experience, micro/physio,anatomy gpa, english/math/psych/speech/sociology gpa, life experience points, language points and TEAS V score? I just want to see how I compare with people who got in lol

Oh so I have a BS in Kinesiology, two AS degrees, first aid and cpr, phlebotomy cert, volunteer and internship experience. My gpa in sciences arent so great, prob 2.5 gpa. I know some classmates that had same not so good GPA. my teas was I think close to 80. I feel like its really just chance, they want a variety. Alot of my classmates have some sort of other degree, cna, er tech, or nothing close to nursing. So its all kind of different. I feel so lucky im in this program and love it! I know definitely some other schools go straight for only GPA. But I would everywhere u can if I were you, keep your options open. Its so hard to get in, I had a few declines from other schools before getting this admission for Palomar.
