I used a palm pilot during my clinicals.....awesome.....you don't have to carry all your books.....downloads from skyscape. The only thing. mine died...and so haven't many others who purchased theirs through DELL.......just awful. $600.00 down the tubes. So, i would recommend getting one that has a decent record.

I didn't need one for my clinicals...and I've been working on the floor for two years following nursing school and have not used one. This is because the floors have computers where you can look up the medications and lab value information. Therefore carrying around a palm with you would not be too much more help but actually more weight. But if you feel that you need it in school, you may want to see look into buying a Palm. I got one for about 300-400, but again have not used it much.

I use the palm centro smart phone. Have drug book, medical dict., lab values, etc. It also has my calendar on it and I can put mp3s of lectures on it to listen to on the go.

I have a blackberry and have all kinds of helpful books on there from skyscape but now I am looking for a nursing charting made easy to put on so I can use when I am charting at clinicals

I thought about getting a PP but didn't want to have 2 devices to carry so I got the Black Berry storm. I didn't even know about all the stuff I can download to it medical wise until this forum, now when my husband gives me crap for buying it I can tell him how usefull it is for my schooling just like the macbook I will be buying in August :p

I've got the palm tx (it's 267 at amazon free shipping-I paid 249 last year), we had to get the Nursing central software package, which has the drug guide, med dictionary, medline search, and the lab book on it. I'm getting better at using it. As for the smart phones, check with your college, some don't allow cell phones in the clinical setting-of course they said that then ignore those who bring them in.
