Palm Beach Community College (PBCC)

Published

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a high applicant pool for the nursing program at the Belle Glade campus for Palm Beach Community College? :)

Hello. I applied to the full time RN program which I hope to start in Jan 2009 at PBCC. The only thing I know about the part time program (evenings and weekends) is that they only accept like 30 students a year. This I'm sure is the main reason it may be difficult to get in to. (I read your other post regarding the part time program) You should attend an info session at the school. It is mandatory anyway.

Good luck to you! :nurse:

from what I know, there is not. I will hopefully start there in Jan

I applied for the Bell Glade program at PBCC for Jan 2009. I heard that they have 24 spots and they usually never fill them, they usually offer some spots to lake worth applicants who didn't get accepted into the L.W. program. I was wondering about the point system at Bell Glade if it is the same as L. W.

W ell I hope I get accepted.

In January I am going to start taking pre-requisites for PBCC's RN program. I spoke with a student advisor last week but she was not much help. I would like some advice from someone who has already done the pre/co-requisites.

What classes do you suggest I take together? Does PBCC offer the co-requisites over the summer? If they do, do you think it's possible to complete successfully, most of the pre/co-requisites during the spring and summer term so that I would be eligible to apply for the Spring 2010 nursing program?

Also, what did you do for financial aid for your pre/co-requisites?

P.S-Can anyone point me in the direction of a student advisor that I should speak with? The one I spoke with just read stuff from the website to me and really did not tell me anything I did not already know.

Thanks in advance!:D

I dont know how there point system works but, I have also heard they never fill up there seats.

PBCC goes by a point system so A&P2 with lab and micro with lab is 6 points. Make sure you get that done before you apply. It seesm as though getting into the lake worth campus is very competitive. you can take classes over the summer. I would suggest taking easier classes over summer. I have been going part -time for about 2 years now I am finishing up my pre-reqs this semester. If you plan on taking any classes online, I can suggest a few teachers. What classes have you already taken?? As far as financial aid is concerened you just apply on the fafsa website. Hope this helps!

Thanks for giving me your input, I really appreciate it.

I haven't taken any classes yet. I'm going to be starting the prerequisites in January. I want to finish as many pre/co-requisites as fast as I can. (I would like to finish most of them during the spring and summer terms) This is what I am thinking about doing so that I can apply to the nursing program for Spring 2010....

Spring 2009 Term

-Anatomy & Physiology 1 (BSC2085/BSC2085L)

-Chemistry (CHM1020)

-Human Growth & Development (NUR2130)

-Elements of Nutrition (HUN1201)

-(and probably) College Composition (ENC1101)

***That would give me all the prerequisites and 2 points for the co-requisites

Summer 2009 Term

-Anatomy & Physiology II (BSC2086/BSC2086L)

-Microbiology (MCB2010/MCB2010L)

-Introduction to Sociology (SYG2000)

-General Psychology (PSY2010)

***Completing these classes would give me another 8 points towards the co-requisites and enable to apply for the spring 2010 start (due date for application is October 1 and co-requisites have to be completed in order to get points for them)

I'm hoping to pull off 26-27.5 points.

I want to do as many as these classes as I can online. I know (as of this year) they can all be done online except for BSC2085L,BSC2086L, and CHM1020. Any teachers you can suggest would be great!

If you can suggest an advisor to speak with, that would be great too. The one I spoke to last week wasn't much help.

I've already completed th FAFSA, and the SAR says I should qualify for a pell grant but PBCC will not go over what I'm eligible for b/c they are waiting on my transcripts.

Thanks!

If you want to do online A&P I dont know if he will be teaching in the spring but his name is ramsammy, he gives you alot of ways to get extra credit it is a little bit of work but you can get an A, If you are close to the PBG campus for A&P, if you want an easy A, use professor arango silvio he also does micro,I am not sure if he does labs if he does take it, you dont need books for him(at least for lecture). What ever you do, do not use online professor columbo constantino I took him and dropped class very hard, tests are out of this world. you can use coffman for micro lab at pbg campus pretty easy going, arrogant though. if you want to do micro online go with carol allyn (I am not sure if she does A&P) you dont need the book she goes right from her notes, final is optional, you will have to go to school to take 4 tests. For Psychology online u can use gisela diaz, very funny, I thoughtso anyway. I only spoke to an advisor 2x, not informative, pretty much what we know she tells you, cant remember her name. You will need to take a humanities course and do the procalc, I thought that was easy you can go on the pbcc website and get practice tests and some info on that, if you cant find it let me know, I can email it to you! For human growth online kellie bassal I think thats her name, not too bad took a while 2 respond 2 email though. If you take her make sure which location the final will be given. I would suggest you take nln in march, get the review book, when I took it there was alot of physics, the book helped a little. Math wasn't 2 bad. verbal was ok, not enough time!!!! If I can think of any online teachers I will let you know.

I am sure there are alot of grammatical mistakes, sorry!!

hope this helps you out!

Thanks a lot! This does help me out a lot. You're the first person I've been able to get any advice from.

I got the NLN guide book for the exam. It's the second edition...in 2 weeks a third edition will be released, do you think the third edition will be much different?

Thanks again for the advice.

you are very welcome, I really have no idea if it would be different. When it comes out just google it and look at the contents or go to the store and see if there is anything really diff.

Any Current PBCC Belle Glade students that can give us some insight on what to expect?
