Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) ELMSN 2023

Published

Hi all,

I noticed there wasn't a thread yet for the PLU ELMSN 2023 Cohort so I wanted to get one started.  Has anyone else already been admitted into the program and accepted?  I received my admittance email on Jan 27th and accepted yesterday!  Excited to meet/chat with others who have applied and best of luck to everyone!

Best,

Ryan

@Rjmetzker Hi! Would you mind sharing your stats?

Hi @yungjalebi, sorry for the late reply!

My nursing pre-req GPA is a 3.9.  I didn't do the best in my undergrad degree which was over 13 years ago, and it totally killed my cumulative GPA which is about a 3.2.

I did apply to this program last year when I still had a couple of pre-reqs left to complete and I did not get in.  Before I reapplied this year I worked as a CNA for about a year.  I also wrote an additional optional essay explaining my cumulative GPA and I think that really helped along with my LORs and the rest of my application.

How about you?

Hi,

Thank you for creating this thread. I was admitted PLU's ELMSN for Summer '23. On Jan 25th, I got my admission email and notification of receiving the Dean's Excellence in Nursing Leadership Scholarship.

I am a little hesitant to accept admission because I have an interview with another school (that would not require me to relocate to another state) at the end of this month, but PLU wants my decision by the 15th of Feb. There are also 2 programs starting in Fall '23 that I am dying to hear back from, which I don't think will happen until April.

I would hate to accept their offer of admission and then have to rescind when I get into a program closer to home, but it might be my best option since nursing schools in California are so competitive to get into.

Hi @J_CNA,

Congrats on getting into PLU!  That is a tough decision, but I think I would do the same thing if I were in your shoes.  It might be worth it to just pay the deposit to hold your spot at PLU, and then just eat that cost if you end up getting into a school closer to home.  It would Be someone's lucky day on the waitlist if you have to rescind haha.

My wife and I have 3 kiddos and she works in the Seattle area so I only applied to schools here in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area.  PLU is like 25 minutes from my house so definitely understand wanting to stay closer to home.

Hope you hear back from the other programs soon, and keep me posted on what you end up doing.  Wish you the best of luck getting into the other programs in California, but would be happy to have you as a classmate of you end up at PLU.

Hi J, we've got a few California transplants in our cohort. The general consensus, is that they enjoy WA. Totally understand the hesitancy though, tuition is high and the cost of moving would be rough. Best of luck on a tough decision.

Hey Zach!

Thank you!  Glad you commented on this thread. I was going to reach out to you to see where you ended up.  Good to hear from you!  Did you end up getting in last Summer?  Would love to chat with you and pick your brain about the program and your experience so far!

Hey Ryan,

Yeah man! Got pulled off the waitlist with a month to get everything squared away. It's been a ride thus far! Frustrating, rewarding, challenging and gratifying. The gambit.. but overall a fun experience. Shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll try and answer what I can.

Dang I bet that was just a little stressful haha, but awesome that you got off the waitlist!  I'll shoot you an email in a bit.

Hi,

To anyone who accepted the offer for PLU, do you have any recommendations as to where to live out there?

Is there a specific area that is considered safe, inexpensive, and close to the school?

I am from California and would have to move out there!

Hi @achoo,

Congrats on getting accepted!  Sorry I am just responding.  There were so many more people on the thread for last year and not so many this year unfortunately.  I was hoping someone would find this thread and chime in.

I actually live in Federal Way/Auburn area which is like 25 minutes north of PLU, and although I have been to Tacoma many times I am not 100% sure the best place to live down there that is safe, inexpensive and close to PLU.  I can ask around for reccomendations.

@Zackattack, do you have any reccomendations.  I know you were saying there a some California transplants In your cohort, any idea where they ended up living?
