Greetings,

I was just wondering if there are any PLU BSN 2013 applicants. I put name if a few hats (UW, SU + ADN/CC programs) and I am sure there are multiple applicants to the PLU programs. Just trying to get a feel from applicants. Also, if there are any current PLU BSN students or Alumni, feel free to chime in on the PLU BSN program. Thanks & all the best to everyone!

Food for thought: The road of least resistance is the road of least progress.

Alright, having a mini-panic attack here. Just got an email today with the health requirements packet that has a deadline of July 10th for fall nursing students. So, I didn't get medical insurance yet (I thought I had more time for that), and I'll be traveling starting the 21st of this month and won't be back until the 14th of July. I need to get everything done and put in the mail by the 20th! That includes the CPR training and TB test, which I'm not even sure I'll be able to complete. Anyway, I'm most worried about getting insurance and proof of insurance before the 20th. Does anyone know a good insurance plan that will meet the requirements?

I completely understand. Until I read your post I saw it as July 1, and was freaking out since I am only moving back to Tacoma the 24th and still need to round up records and find the time (and money) to get CPR certified.

The school I'm at offers optional student health insurance, do you know if PLU does too? Because that would definitely be a nice option for you. The school I'm at offered Aetna, I'm not sure what it would do in the Tacoma area, but I used it down in Oregon and got my urgent care and preventative medicine stuff covered.

If you want, this is their website. I'm just not sure how well it will work for you. aetnastudenthealth.com/

I was also looking at the PLU facebook page just now, and it doesn't look like there is a page for the nursing program in general, but I think it would be nice to have a page dedicated to our cohort in specific. That way we can kind of get to know one another before the semester starts, and it will be a place to get homework help and stuff like that after the semester gets rolling. Would anyone be interested in something like that?

So, I got on the ball as fast as I could. I have my CPR scheduled prior to my departure, and I will be able to complete my TB screening. I just applied for healthcare coverage that meets the program's requirements through Regence. As an Air Force veteran, I do have medical coverage through the VA; however, the coverage does not include emergency and hospitalization services. I can only hope that Regence approves my coverage and sends me documentation of such before the deadline. I did contact Ruth and was able to get an extension. I thought it was quite a short deadline, especially since it is during the summer time frame.

I did look into PLU's healthcare options. From what I could find, they used to offer a buy-up option for nursing students, but that is no longer offered as PLU doesn't have a health plan anymore. It is more of a wellness plan that every student has to participate in. I had seen the buy-up option before, which was why I didn't try to find my own insurance. I have to say this is quite aggravating.

Anyway, I am 100% for getting to know other students of the fall cohort before classes start. I myself looked at the facebook page and only found a general nursing school page. I am both excited and nervous about starting and would love to connect with others!

So, a quick note about myself, just to begin: I am a mother of 2 (an 11 year old boy and 9 year old girl), married for 10 years this past May 31. I just completed 6 years of service as an intelligence analyst in the Air Force this past September. I began working towards a career in nursing in January of 2011 and I remain as excited and determined as I was when I began this journey!

Where are you taking the CPR class? I was looking at a couple and they were all rather expensive :/

I just set up a basic fb group page, it can be accessed here: facebook.com/PluNursingSchoolClassOf2016

If you have any issues just let me know!

Congrats on 10 years! That's impressive!

I'm less exciting, I was born and raised in Tacoma, but needed to get away from the area for awhile. I've been down in Ashland, Or for the past 3 years doing pre-reqs. I planned on going to OHSU, but I think I would go crazy living down here for another 3 years. I have always wanted to go into nursing, and am incredibly excited to start classes this fall!

I actually have a friend who is an EMT and has her own business teaching CPR classes. She is very reasonable and I will be getting mine from her. I don't start until Spring of 2014 so I haven't received my deadline yet, however I may just get it out of the way now. She will come to my house if we possibly get enough people. It is called Staying Alive CPR and First Aid. It is about $35 per person which is a fantastic price and she is legitimate. Her website is pugetsoundcpr.com and her number is 206-446-6922. Her name is Hannah! She is smart & funny! I am in Puyallup.

@mc0306 Ido have my associates in science and pre-nursing. I finished is last December. Just doing some group tutoring until Spring. What univeristy requirements do you have to complete before spring? I talked with **** ******, my advisor, over the phone. He said that I don't need to take a class in fall. He advised that in spring quarter I take Nursing 220, religion, and a 300 level psych class. I am taking the psych so I can minor in it.

I'm taking my CPR class at Cascade Healthcare Services in Tacoma. They offered plenty of different dates and times that worked for me, so I just went ahead and scheduled it through them. It was close to $80 for both the required book and class.

My TB testing is going to run me about $120, and I just found out I have to get a titer test done for mumps. I have documentation of immunity, but since there is no date associated with it I have to get the test done. I am starting to wonder if I can use these expenses as deductions for education. I doubt it, but I'm going to look into it later.

Thanks for setting up that page!

For anyone who was wondering... Currently I have heard nothing but I got an email from them today asking for a copy of my DD-214 (separation paperwork from the military) so obviously I'm still in the running! Thank God! They sure are taking their sweet time though... Luckily I have a vacation in a week to take my mind off things.

Sarah,

What branch? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I was in the Air Force. I told them that the reason I had to retake some classes was because I deployed in the middle of them so hopefully they just need to verify my military service and then they will send out my acceptance! Hopefully! :)

I GOT IN!!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! They took their sweet time but I GOT IN!!! YAY!! I am scheduled to start in the fall... CAN'T WAIT!
