Pace University CDP Fall 2010 Post Here!

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello all!

Have you applied to Pace University's Combined Degree Program (CDP) in New York City for Fall 2010? I applied and I am awaiting my acceptance or rejection notice.

If anyone feels comfortable sharing their GRE/MAT scores or GPA, and whether or not they were accepted, I would be really appreciative.

Also, maybe if I get accepted, we could start getting to know each other before the semester starts.

Good luck to all!

Mark

I would think so. Have you not finished all of your pre-reqs? They might wait to give you a final answer after they have seen the grade from your missing class. Your class probably ends in April/May right?

I'm going to get my grades in the beginning of May, probably all A's. The one class I'm missing is Microbiology.

I have applied to Pace's NYC Combined Degree Program as well. Does anyone have any information regarding the exact tuition, fees, expenses, etc. for the program? Also, does anyone know anyone who has been through the program, and what feedback have you heard? I'm just looking for some good information to help me make my decision if/when the time comes. I've been accepted to a couple of other programs and am trying to compare. Thanks and good luck!

What other programs have you applied to?

I highly suggest reading the entire thread below before committing to Pace's CDP program...hope this helps you!

I've been selected for an interview. Anybody else hear anything?

Hey, I got in!

Megm,

Tution and fees: $14,697.00, Books and supplies: well over $1000, Uniforms: about $40 per scrub set. This is the cost for one semester. Books remain about the same for each semester. If you were accepted and decided to go, good luck. It is brutal.

Hi all! Congrats on getting in! I was wondering what do you think so far? I've read some scary posts about Pace's program (high fail rates, poor faculty) which is really disappointing to me since it's what I've been aiming my pre-reqs towards. Any thoughts would be great!

Thanks,

GL

Hi

I applied to the Cdp program for spring semester 2011. I got the rejection letter back....I can reapply if i take the MAT and get in the mid 400's.... I was just wondering why do you consider this program to be awful??

Is it do able?

How much is the tuition?

Is it better if I go to another Absn program?

I hear that it disorganized.... I just am so confused right now ... I don't know if I should take that test again because there are no guarantees....

By the way , when i called them the main reason why they didn't accept me was cause of my gre verbal score.

If anyone who is in the program right now can help me... it will be greatly appreciated. =

I'm sorry to hear about that, tough break :( Funny they said it was your verbal score that was the reason why you were not admitted. Of all the things for them to pinpoint, that would be lower on my list of what would make a good nurse. I think the estimated tuition amount I see around the boards is $45k. I know a lot of the other ABSN programs in NYC have different requirements, but why not apply to any of those just in case? Pace is the only one I've come across that wants GRE scores.

I spoke to a woman though facebook who just graduated from PACE and passed the NCLEX a few weeks ago. I'll paste what she wrote to me (it's edited to remove anything that may identify her). It really helped me get a better perspective on the program after hearing so many negative things:

Most people chose this school because of the clinical opportunities and they are most definitely in NYC!

Now for Pace. I feel as though most schools will have similar complaints. No program is perfect and people love to talk. That being said, there are some completely valid complaints. While there are some professors here that shine and make you want to be a nurse with all your heart, there are others that really and truly drag the students and the program down.

You should know that you must maintain a 3.0 cumm GPA to stay in the program. You may not get any lower than a 77% in any undergraduate class or lower than an 83% in any graduate class. If you fail to meet these guidelines you would be dismissed from the program (no money back, no exceptions).

I only tell you this because we lost quite a few people in the first semester (about a quarter to a third of the class). These are numbers that Pace will not readily share. I don't think this is the norm for this school. There was a new prof that really caused many people many problems. We were all pretty scared of failing out. Few of the people asked to leave deserved it, in my opinion. They were good students with good grades in their past field and certainly worked very hard.

I have never felt more like a number. After the fall semester, I have lost all trust in the administration and don't believe that they care as much as they should about the students. I believe the program is somewhat broken but still functional. The professors range from amazing to incompetent in their own profession. These problems need to be addressed.

Now for the good. I have learned an incredible amount of information! I don't feel ready to be a nurse, but I know that I am getting close. I have had phenomenal clinical experiences.

In closing, I don't think I would chose this program again. It is a strong statement, but it is an honest one. There are great things about the program, but the bad strongly outweighs the good. If you do chose to come here be prepared. All of these programs are intense and there is a lot at stake. Buy yourself a comprehensive NCLEX review book and start studying now. I know it seems dramatic but most of the exams you will take in nursing school are in this format. The NCLEX questions take time to get used to so do it now and don't let it effect your grade! We never got that heads up from Pace, but it is a very important piece of advice (especially if you are not great with standardized exams). That goes for any program! Be prepared to lose most if not all of your social life. It is an intense year but you will get through it. The more you get into the program the more natural it will feel.

Thanks alot!! I feel better hearing that there is still a chance that I can do great in the program.... I still feel I should apply to other programs just in case .... I am thinking of applying to Dominican college ... the tuition is atleast 10 k cheaper and I haven't heard anything bad about it yet.... =)

Good Luck in the program!
