Oz new grad interview help?

Published

Hi everyone,

Have a phone interview coming up soon with The Alfred in Melbourne for their new grad programme. I don't have much experience with behavioural-based interviews and was hoping some of you out there might have some tips for me about what they might ask. Has anyone been through the new grad programme at the Alfred? Would love to hear your advice!

Also applying to Queensland Health - if anyone is familiar with their new grad interviews would also be interested in your comments. Thank you!!

Sorry no one has answered yet, Alfred would be a great hospital to do your Grad, was there the other day and spoke to a few grads they love working there and say the support is really good.

Interviews, from what I can remember, most hospitals as a new grad want to know that you are safe. This means focus on being a team member and getting help when you do not understand or looking things up to constantly be learning about the new things that you will encounter.

Know your basic stuff like....I remember one question, what would you do if recover wanted you to take back to the ward someone that had a draintube that was draining copious amounts that they were changing constantly in recovery and they had a BP of 90/70, pulse 110 and demanded the patient went back to the ward because they were busy and needed the space.

Another: what would you do if another colleague asked you to check a syringe with clear liquid in it and for you to sign the drug register as being checked?

Make out you consider yourself a team member and are constantly will practice, reflective practise.....that is the key word at the moment, constantly evaluating why you did it, did it work etc etc would you do it like that again....blah. blah, its all really just selling yourself and showing that you are no cowboy and are safe, know your boundaries and will seek help.

Good luck!

Hi, thanks so much for your advice! Great to know the Alfred new grads were happy, have met a few here in NZ who definitely weren't feeling that way!

baahahaha well my advice is to get a good sleep , relax and dont let your nerves totally ruin the interview as I did yesterday( yep it really was that bad , I've had feedback already).

KNow you competancies(ANMC) , rules regarding meds ect , think about basic simple answers but DO USE nurse words....... they were really looking for those catch words. Simple clear concise answers , that indicate you will be safe nurse. Refresh your basic med surg knowledge.

Good luck.

 dont crack funnies .... I KNOW I know but i was just so tense:clown:
