Hi everyone! Today is my third day of lpn school and I've already had tons of homework and several quizzes. I'm not complaining at all, being that nursing is a passion for me. I don't even think the work is hard right now, it's just that I have so much to do in so little time. I am dedicated to studying everyday because I am determined to finish but I've been feeling pretty down lately. I had to leave my four year old son with my mom because I moved close to the school. I miss him so much and feel that it's only going to get worse and I won't b able to spend anytime with him this year. I called him and couldn't do anything but cry, cry, cry. Another thing that's bothering me, is how fast everything is going and I'm scared I won't be able to learn everything completely. Can someone who is going through this now or has gone through this please give me some advice on how to cope with this!

Becoming a LPN is an extremely overwhelming process. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time adjusting, but I promise that soon you'll get used to it. And just when you think you can't take anymore, you'll be off for Thanksgiving or Christmas break. It is extremely exhausting, but eventually everything just clicks and it all fits together. Don't get discouraged now, you've already sacrificed so much to do this! It must be really difficult not having your son there with you. Once you get into the groove of school maybe you could work out times/days to spend with him, and you could always skype on the off days. Trust me, at first it's all so overwhelming, but it DOES get better. And it FLIES BY! And then all of a sudden, you're graduating! Hang in there!

It is very overwhelming.. I'm almost halfway through my program and theres days (like today) where I am at my ends wit trying to do schoolwork, clinicals, and clinical paperwork. All i can say is work your butt off and envision yourself walking down the stage with your diploma in your hand when you finish the program... Never give up. When you do have bad days, and trust me you will have them, have your moment of being upset about it, and pick yourself up and tell yourself you will make it through the program, failure is not an option. Good luck to you in your program.. It is possible to make it, if you want it bad enough.

It is very over whelming. Just know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and keep you eyes on the prize.
LPN school goes by so fast and before you know it you will be done. Good luck and remember... one day at a time.

just make sure u take deep breaths, i have 5 months left out of a 12 month program, you will adjust to constantly studying not having any friends, fun and social life, also i have a 6 year old and i feel like i neglect her cuz shes always with my mom n gmom but everyone tells me im tripping, but it will pay off and it will get easier i promise u as long as u dont get backed up on ur studies i have all 90s and above and they do not come easily, so stay focused make urself study even when u dont want to and constantly remind urself that even though u cant see ur child like u want what u r doing now will benefit him in the future greatly, he wont even remember that u were gone, but u were gone for a great reason

Hi,
Im sorry your having a hard time. It will pass faster than you think. Here are some things that helped me get through school: I would ask each of your teachers for suggestions on how you can effectively study. It is a lot of material, and it can be hard to figure out what material to prioritize. One tip each of my teachers told me was to pay special attention to any material in a box, graph, chart, or in a picture, and learn your key terms. They are usually key material.
Another thing I did was to summarize the key parts of each page/chapter/disease/concept. The books are so long, and I think it would have been impossible for me to memorize all of the material.
For example, when I would get to diseases, I would take a notebook and use each page for a different disease. Just pull the main points out of your book, copy it onto your paper, and study your version.
Example-
Disease- (what it is)
Cause- (pathophyiology)
Treatment- (drugs and side effects)
Nursing interventions/ patient teaching
I did miss some things I thought were not important with this method, but generally did very well. Also, ask lots and lots of questions. Never pretend to understand something when you don't. But most importantly, just try not to stress out too much. Remember to take a few hours a week to relax and unwind!

It WILL get better and you're doing such a good thing by putting yourself thru school! Keep your head up and focus, it'll be over before you know it! =]
