Overseas Nurses That Applied for Registration To QNC

To those nurses who were seeking registration with the Queensland Nursing Council and whose applications were put on hold until commencement of the AHPRA work.

Any news? Any guess what is the situation with our applications? Will they be re-assessed by the AHPRA? Should we pay once again for the assessment process? Did anyone tried to reach the AHPRA and clarify all the issues?

i just hope that AHPRA will already give information regarding processing such as timeframe..hope they would have clear announcements to us nurses..coz we're so clueless..:(:(

hi, can i ask what were the grounds/reasons stated why they couldnt decide right away on your application??why do they need to put it on hold??thanks

Hi. According the QNC, it is no longer possible for them to refer for competency program since they are undergoing transition and that they are waiting for the new standards for demonstration of competency. They also said that if I opted to put my application on hold, my papers will stay with them until further notice from the AHPRA but until now I havent heard from them.

good news, I just read from the AHPRA website that they are already processing international nurses' application and what makes it even better is that they will adopt the assessment process of the state where we applied (that is for applicants who are not yet processed before Sept. 13, 2010) ..

do you guys know any news about bridging program in qld?

as far as i´m concerned, they´re only offering conversion....

i really apply in qld but i´ll opt for bp instead conversion....

any news, please share!

that, i don't know... the ahpra didn't tackle the bridging program in their update. what's conversion and bp if i may ask????:) are your papers already approved????

bp is the program that all os nurses have to go through after the papers are accepted. it´s a 3month program offered by unis and institutions in oz. ít´s around au$ 10.000 and after the completion of the program u can register as a rn in oz.

another path is to go through conversion, which is a one year program only offered at unis and of course, it´s longer and more expensive than bp, however some people claim that it´s easier to find a job after conversion than bp.

i´ll do the bp ´cos it´s faster and cheaper than conversion.....if i´m not mistaken qld was the only state that didnt use to offer bp but an assessment program. now with the new reg all overseas nurses will have to go through a bp ( or conversion) so qld might be adapting to it. i know they offer conversion but not bp and i really want to apply in qld.

i still havent submitted my papers ´cos in brazil things take a lot of time to come out....i have to wait for one year after i graduated to get some papers and i´ll be one year graduated in dec, so i´ll only send my papers in the beg. of 2011. thank god i´m done with ielts already!

i see.. thanks a lot nathalie. yeah i remember qld nursing council also suggested to me before they cease their operation to take up a course in the uni. i considered it but when i take a look at the cost, it seemed that i cannot afford it. if in case, i will go there with student visa so i don't even know if i can work part time... i just hope the result of my application will be out in no time so i really know what to do next. i hope that by the time you're papers are ready ahpra is already stabilized... good luck...

thank you! that´s what i´m hoping for...

if i´m not mistaken, with the student visa u can work part time, however, bp is full time and those who have been through it, said that it´s tough and it´s very hard working....so there´s loads of studying involved....

this thread is awesome and there´s a lot of info about bp in vic/wa....nways, probably in qldn it´ll be the same so it´s worthy reading!
