Oh, those home prices! I know all to well. I am currently a mortgage loan officer and lost quite a few paychecks last year around March when my clients watched there dreams die in a matter of about a week. But it is still possible to get into a decent loan. You can pay interest only payments while your income is rising. Hopefully your equity will build in that time and you can sell it later with some nice cash in your pocket to purchase somewhere else :chuckle since most move out of here. I personally am tired of Vegas. It is too darn hot (it's only been about 116 for the whole week). I want to move to Cali, and luckily I have some nice equity to get there. Actually, DH and I are thinking about cashing out some equity (since it is OUR money just sitting there looking pretty) to allow me to just focus on school. We will pay our bills (util, phone, etc.) for two years in advance, so we only have to worry about the mortgage and gas/food/fun. That way, I can focus on getting my feet planted in school and not have to withdrawl again. Hopefully when Im done, our home will have appriciated more, and regain some of that equity.

I actually took it in 2000, luckily they can still accept my score. Got a 124. Since I had to drop Micro, I lose the 2 points that I would have gotten towards admission. I could retake the NLN and try to get the 4 points, instead of the 2 I get, but I could also get a 99 :angryfire and have to wait a year. I studied really well for the test, but ran out of time on the 1st portion (reading, etc.), so my score could have been higher if I were paying attention to the clock. I actually took it really early in my prereqs, just so I would know what the test was like, since back then you had to wait 6 months to retest. I went into it without much concern, since if I passed it would just be a miracle, my goal was to get experience with the test for the "real" go 'round. Well, I passed alright. I had to call NLN and ask them to decipher the score for me...didn't feel there was anyway that I scored like that, much less passed. I probably blew her eardrum when I screamed.

I had Debbie (health office) give me fall's scoring sheet, since it is different from Spring. By the way, Debbie has got to be the nicest person i've met. The cutoff was 13 points, and 20 people had that. They had to do a computer random drawing. They had almost 400 apps with 128 seats. 1st time they ever experienced that. But using the calc sheet they used, I would have had 16 points without the Micro class. So, after Aug 1, I will call to see how many apps they got. If it is even more outrageous, I may just retake the exam. Boy, I will have high nerves on that one. Hopefully I can get in in Spring. I just cant imagine having to wait for a year.

Are you in school somewhere, or are you graduated? Where, when and all those questions.

I got so lucky... I had 13 points and was picked by the puter... thank God.

Though I think 13 people did not accept, so others were able to get in...

Holding me breath until the end of August :)

Congrats Kriddyboo! Yah, I heard 13 was the lowest points accepted and there were 20 with those points. Glad to hear that luck was on your side. I am getting ready to start volunteer work, since Debbie told me that no one got accepted that didn't have volunteer points (at least not originally). I was taking Micro at NSC at the beginning of the month, but the prof was tooooo smart. Kindof makes it hard with my learning style to be taught by him. I dropped the class and am taking it at CCSN in fall. That means I wont get the 2 points for it being "completed" by Nov. 1. Oh, well. I would rather pass it in the fall than to fail this summer and still have to take it in the fall. I would have had 14 points without the Micro or volunteer work, and obviously would have been accepted on that score, but now there will be all of those who didn't get in that are re-applying, that have now finished some of those pre-reqs they weren't able to get points for for fall. I hope there isn't a enormous amount of apps, but I have to plan as though there will be. I am so happy for you making it in!!! Good luck and take Pharm IN CLASS. They offer it online, but wow, I wouln't recommend it, and neither do some of the graduates I've talked to. That was the hard class for me when I was 1st in the program.

Best wishes!

I was just fooling around earlier and got onto the nvnurse site. Looked at several things on the site just for fun. Can anyone tell me how a nurse, even a highly paid nurse, can afford a home in some of the areas there? I mean it is outrageous, a mobile home, only 2 bedrooms/2baths on a small lot is over $100,000.00. How in the world do you pay those payments on something that will probably fall apart before it is paid for? I may be a simple country girl but that is mindblowing to me.

Hi I'm a traveling RN origionally from Northeastern Nevada and need to say that there are alot of nice smaller hospitals in towns other than LV and Reno that have alot to offer and it costs much much less to live in these areas. Pay is good at most of them also. Look into Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital (NNRH) in Elko, Nv or some of the other smaller towns like Fallon, Ely, etc. You might be suprised what you find. NNRH is a brand new hospital (2002 if I remember right) that offers good wages depending on experience $20.oo new grads-$30's more experienced nurses. and you can get a nice house in town or go over the hill and get a house on acerage for great prices!!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.

I just hope I can hold up with working full time and being a mother to my two little ones.

I plan on only working full time for the first semester, than getting a job part-time for the rest of the program. We'll see how it goes...

Woogy, as far a Pharm... I heard it was difficult online as well. Unfortunitly I live so far from the Charleston Campus it is really impossible to go there for yet another course. I have already taken Math 100B which should help me with my calculations, and I also bought a Palm Pilot with 3 different Rx guides so hopefully they will help some. I will keep my fingers crossed! :)

Good luck to you on the Spring program. Keep in mind that BIOL 224 will now be worth 10 points for Spring. That ought to help you out. Also, if you're not already registered take McGilloway for Micro. She is so easy. I took it along with BIOL 223 and was 5 points away from an A- grrrr but anyway she is great, I had a blast in her class. I wish you the best of luck.

Kristin,

Thanks! As far as micro, funny thing is that I had McGilloway for lec and lab but was waiting for Pantle to be avail. I got into his lab a few days ago and was able to pick up someones drop in his lec. I have heard for many years that he is the one to take. I would drive to Mesquite to take pharm in class vs. online. Just my 2 cents though. Pharm was HARD!!! I can't imagine taking it online! And it isnt just about calcs. Its about all the different meds and classifications. I found calcs were more important with lab, at least that is where i was tested. Luckily I got 10/10, and I didn't even know until right before lab that "it" was the test of all tests. If you didn't pass, one more shot and that was it. Funny thing is that me and another classmate were at odds with each other about how to study during the 15 mins. they allowed us before the test. She counteracted my advice (I know everyone learns a different way) and failed.

I imagine that most are also getting the 10 points for APII. I am NOT wanting to miss out on Spring semester. I will be devistated if that is the case.

Keep in touch with everything you go through. I would be excited to see how it goes. I know a lot can change in 3 years since I was in.
