He came in again yesterday. He made another attempt with her but didn't get away with it. We told the house supe and she brought it up with his PMD when he came in for rounds. He was stunned about the harassment, had no idea it was going on. (I believe him, he's the kind that would have reamed him out long ago had he known.) He's got a plan in mind but it would involved the ER chief to make sure all the docs are on the same page, because if one doc refuses to go along, it won't work. Keep your fingers crossed, please!!

Who cares, as long as his care wasn't compromised, and that doesnt seem to be the case.

Stick to your guns. Sounds like you are trying to do the right thing here. I hate pervs. Sick or not. It's disgusting to me. Maybe he'll get tired of not being able to play his games at your facility and move onto another. But, then, that really wouldn't fix the problem. His primary care doc needs to be updated on this pt's inappropriate behavior. Everytime this pt comes in, the behavior needs to be documented and make sure the doc is aware that this is an "on-going" thing. Surely, his doc can't expect you to keep putting up with this sexual harrassment. Maybe suggest to the pt that you are going to have him arrested for being sexually menacing. I wouln't know what to call it. But, if this pt was acting like this at a store he would be arrested. This just makes my stomach turn.:barf01:

We have a frequent flyer with some issues... he's accused me (female) of sexually molesting him, he's gotten threatening with some of the staff... nothing outright, but very subtle.

Every time he comes in, I call security to sit by his bedside. I won't even address the guy until security is there. They don't mind doing it... but ours is a large hospital, so we have a few security guys to spare. I've had him escorted out three times in two months. :uhoh3:

Good to know the pt's doc is willing to back you and the rest of the staff up. Hummm...this really is a sticky situation here. The pt needs medical attention because of non-compliance. But, sounds like he's being non-compliant just to get his willies off while visiting the ER. I can only imagine how you and other staff feel when you see him waiting to be taken care of. AWWWWW....how dreadful!!! Have you considered pressing charges?

We have even gone so far as to barter with each other: "I'll do this for you if you take care of him." Sometimes it goes round and round until the terms are finally accepted!

I honestly don't know if pressing charges would be an option, this was discussed pretty well the first time I posted about this. His moves are pretty subtle, subtle enough that he would be able to say "That's not what I meant/did."

I love the idea of security standing (or sitting) by, but we don't have security. Too small. Our engineering dept acts as security in an emergency.

Even if he is too "subtle" to involve law enforcement, you can still confront him on his behavior. Yes, he will say that you misunderstood him, but after 1-2 times of that, just tell him that you are documenting these "misunderstandings" on his health record since there appears to be a continuing pattern.

And I agree with Ms._Jen_RN, let the MD medicate him. Probably the most important way that you can protect yourself legally, is to never be alone with him. Always have a chaperone. Your peers are too busy in the ER? Have the house supervisor come down. Have a male RN/ CNA/ RT from the floor to chaperone. This patient has gotten away with this sly, "wink wink" behavior long enough. Put the ball back in his court. Tell him that there will ALWAYS be two staff members involved in his care because of his inappropriate behavior.

Yes...I agree. Don't let yourself be put in the position of being alone with him. If his medical problem is not life threatening, then, he can wait until 2 of you can assist him in his time of need. I think finding a male staff member, wether it be a janitor, cook, etc. would be beneficial for you to witness any interaction with this pt. I think you stated in your other posts that this pt only acts inappropriate with female staff members. Maybe having a guy around may do the trick. I know that we can't refuse to help sick people, but, this really takes the cake. Ugh......the guy sounds like a real goober.Good Luck and keep us posted.
