OU ABSN 2022 Program

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to make a post for everyone applying to OU's ABSN program starting June 2022. I submitted my application the other day and have a few questions/wanted to meet people who are applying as well! I was told we wouldn't hear back until middle of February.

My bachelors was in Elementary Education...so not a lot of cross-over, haha.

Same here LOL my degree was Business!

Thank you everyone for the responses! I only applied to the Tulsa campus.

Hopefully we find out soon enough, the suspense is no fun, haha.

Did you all apply to the Traditional program as well or just the ASBN?

I really hope so as well! They said 5-7 weeks from the deadline so 7 full weeks from the deadline will be Feb 26th but I really hope it’s before that.

I just applied to the ABSN!

I applied for OKC and then the BADNAP program at OCCC as a backup!

Hi future nurses!!

I graduated the ABSN program in 2016. I am now a recent grad from their NP Program. Just randomly decided to check the forums to see what’s currently going on ?

OUHSC doesn’t care to look into previous degree. Just your GPA and science GPA! At least, that’s what it was when I had gone through the program. I thought it was a great program and the 14 months came and went so fast! Highly recommend over the traditional track!

I feel like a good number of my classmates came from the waitlist, even at very last minute. The spots are offered and then they obviously reevaluate the next candidate when someone passes on their opportunity.

Good luck! Feel free to ask questions. I understand the anticipation and anxiety.

CONGRATS! You are literally living my career dream right now! What tips and advice would you say helped you during the program especially with it being a fast paced program? Or really just any tips/advice you honestly think would help!

Thank you!!

Tip/advice: Make a facebook group page for your classmates to share documents, assignments, free discussion, etc. My class utilized it heavily!
For those who get accepted, you’ll have a “buddy” in the class ahead of you. Ask if they’re willing to share old assignments, notes, or references as a guide for your assignments.

Make friends with everyone!! You’re all in this together. It’s tough having an exam/quiz every week. Bounce ideas, further discuss, share information and share/work/divide up on assignments amongst each other. Independent studying is great, but take advantage of the group settings. My class was pretty tight knit! The support is really what you need to get by this fast paced program.

I don’t advise to work. Very few classmates did and did great and not so great. All depends on your financial situation, of course. I had the blessing of being able to focus on school, do well, and keep my sanity.

Wow! Thank you so much for this! It was definitely needed! If you can remember, how was your schedule like every week? Do you think the program prepared you enough for the NCLEX?

Oh gosh. I remember there were some long days and some short days, but you’re doing something 4-5 days of the week. An exam or quiz is every 1-1.5 weeks. Clinicals were 2-3x/week. Intercession courses during breaks.

Majority of my class passed the first time. The others had to take it twice, but they were the ones struggling in the program. We took ATI exams that helped prepare us throughout the program. So, overall.. yes.. I think the program was enough for us to pass the NCLEX fine.

This is really good to hear! Definitely going to keep everything you said in mind! Do you remember how long it took for you to hear back from them? It’s just been so nerve racking! Also, what type of NP are you doing, how was their program at OU? I will go back for my Masters for NP after working a few years.

I don’t remember exactly.. just that it took months.

I got my FNP at OU. I work in interventional pain management. I thought the program was fine! Finding clinical placements were the most challenging thing, but I got lucky and had them in line at least 6mo-1 year ahead of time. My whole class passed boards the first time. The masters programs are now moving towards a DNP. OU is now a DNP and the other online programs are starting to follow suite!
