Nurses New Nurse

I am a new nurse, with only 3 months hospital experience. I was very lucky and managed to snag an OB nurse position with SSM Futures. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to keep up with the intensity and fast pace of the hospital setting. After having my orientation extended twice, I'm still having issues and thus after talking with my team leader, we've decided that I should probably resign. Because of my efforts though, she will try to help me get at least an interview for a different position, but I have to find some, and I only have 30 days. We discussed that something like a desk job, physician's office, or low-acuity clinic might be a better fit for me. The problem is, I'm afraid my RN license puts me right in the middle with being too high for medical assistant positions, and not high enough for Nurse Practitioner positions. As well as I don't have the several years experience most want for desk positions.

I absolutely love the OB setting, although I realize that will probably not be where my next job is, and I love the clinical aspect of being able to do IV's and blood draws.

Does anyone have any advice or know of any other positions that I could look into that might work for me? Any office, desk type, or phlebotomist positions that I could do with an RN license but only 3 months experience?

In the area where I live, occasional openings for RN job openings at local blood banks become available. This would enable you to perform blood draws and IVs while sitting behind a desk much of the time.

Other possibilities for someone with three months of experience include home health (blood draws in the home setting), infusion companies, private duty, hospice, and group homes for the IDD/MHMR population.

Look for Ob/gyn office positions, less pay, but it might be a good fit.

That was my thought, also. My PCP sent me to an OB/GYN for an issue he wasn't comfortable with a few years ago, and it was the first physician's office I had encountered in many years that actually employed RNs. Don't know if that's a regular OB/GYN thing, or if it was just that office ...

Thank you for the input. I've been looking and so far none have been in my area. I live in St. Louis, MO and the closest I've found was in Springfield, MO for a Mobile Phlebotomist. I would've applied if it was closer. The OB/GYN offices so far only want MAs or NPs as I said before, but I will also be looking into small practice ones in person tomorrow. I will keep looking though. Thanks again.

If anyone thinks of anything else, please let me know.
