OSU Okmulgee

If you have most of you basics already then just do the RN. in my opinion. I have also heard less than positives about osu okmulgee. I went to lpn school across the street from there and not many were going there. I did lpn first because I didn't have any basics yet. If you have any other questions let me know. Dig It!

I actually have a couple questions for you (hope you don't mind)..I have been reading on this site for awhile and just finally registered. I am considering going to Green Country Technology's LPN program starting in May or September and am curious as to what the program is like. I heard that their NCLEX pass rate is 85%. I actually live in Sapulpa and am curious as to where their clinical sites are located...(are they mostly in Okmulgee?) Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

I contacted Green Country Tech Center and received an application and had a couple of questions for ya. What is the program there like? Is it self taught? Which clinical sites do you guys use? I am really thinking toward getting my LPN first than head to RN down the road. Have you heard any thing about any other LPN programs around Tulsa?

Sorry im so late on replying. It was self paced when I went there but I believe it has changed since then. Clinicals are mostly done in Okmulgee, Henryetta, and OSU med ctr. here in tulsa. In our class of like 17 I was the only one not to pass my first try but should have just had alot going on personally then. 2nd time no problem. I also looked into Central tech. in sapulpa and it seemed to be a pretty good school as well. only reason I did the GCTC is because it started 6months before the Central tech one did. Hope that helps.

I graduated from Green Country Tech Center in Okmulgee in Dec 08. My class is supposed to be the last self paced. I passed the boards on the first try on Feb. 1st. We did clinicals at Okmulgee, Henryetta, OSU Medical in Tulsa, and Muskogee Regional. Not sure how it's gonna go at GCTC with the new style of classes. Gotta be easier than self paced. It was tough.

I have been a nursing student at osu/okmulgee for two semester. The instructors are not helpful. They teach straight from the book. There isn't any hands on experience except when you go to clinicals. I would advice you to apply somewhere else. I'm thinking about transfering to another school.

I disagree. I just graduated from osu-okmulgee and the 3rd and 4th semester instructors are wonderful. They are extremely helpful in both theory and clinicals.It is fast paced and difficult, but very challenging. I have been an LPN for 10 plus years and thought I already knew a lot, but I really did learn a lot of things I didn't know. As long as you show interest and do what is asked of you, they are very willing to work with and help you out. I was a LPN, so I didn't have the instructors for 1st and 2nd semester. But there are only 4 instructors for the whole program. The biology instructors work with the nursing program to assure that the basics are well covered. But, I think you should give them a chance. People need to remember that this is still a new program. The program placed itself on hold to redo the cirriculum and my class was the first to complete the new ciriculum. So it is still a work in progress. The classes are smaller than at TCC or OU or Connors so it's more pesonable. I took pre-reqs at TCC, and talk about being outnumbered and not caring.

So far, people have passed the boards, so give it a chance.

I know this is an old post, but I want to reply because I found it on a semi-related google search, and I don't want people to have a bad idea of the OSU-Okmulgee Nursing Program. I have heard terrible things about the way the program was in the first few years, but it is not the same program...AT ALL. I am in 4th semester at OSU-Okmulgee, and I couldn't disagree more about "the instructors not being helpful". As a matter of fact, they go out of their way every day for us. There have been countless instances when each of the instructors has taken EXTRA time to hold extra study sessions, practice question sessions, make study guides for the test, or come up with their own creative way to help us grasp and retain the information. There are people in this world who are never satisfied, and every class has students who want to get by with the very least (these people had better not attend nursing school ANYWHERE), and then there are others who EARN more respect from the instructors (understandably). I can honestly say that the four instructors and director are the best and most caring instructors I have ever had. The program was just revamped last year--You have to give it time, but even so I think it's awesome already:yeah:. It's small and personable, and very convenient if you live near Okmulgee and don't want to drive a distance. I am especially appreciative when I talk to friends who attend nursing school elsewhere, and have various complaints (I cannot come up with very many at all). Our clinicals are at Okmulgee, Henryetta, Muskogee Regional, and Muskogee VA. There are also various places in Tulsa that we do community clinicals--Margaret Hudson, Little Lighthouse, Shadow Mountain, and pediatrics at St. Johns. Now there are schools with better pass rates, but also consider their graduation rates. When it comes to education, you get out what you put in:idea:. If you expect the instructors to do all the work for you, you will be one that does not pass. If you believe in yourself and you are willing to work hard, you will be one that passes. If you want instructors who are caring and understanding about your personal life and will work with you, or at least know your name, go to OSU-Okmulgee. As far as the LPN question, I don't believe it will give you an edge in RN school, and the reason I say that is because the LPNs in our class do not make better grades or have an easier time. The highest grades actually go to the traditional RN students. I would not advise anyone to attend Green Country for LPN, because I have family members who have attended it, and I have been told it was "awful".

I agree with you about the LPN. The traditional students normally got the better grades, because they hadn't practiced and it was easier for them to put the "book' answer versus what we sometimes have to do in real practice. Anyone that asks me about going to LPN school first before going to RN, I usually tell them that theyd be better off to got to a RN program. Especially if the plan is to go right into a RN program immediately after finishing a LPN program. You get very little actual time in practice, plus you have to take the stinking NCLEX twice.

I am glad to hear that the instructors are still great. They definetly care, especially if you do. You can't expect someone to help you out if you don't help yourself first. I find myself recalling information all the time ( actually seeing it in my head like it is in the book or on the test), plus today, doing all those care plans actually came in handy @ work.
