OSU-OKC FALL 2019

Published

Howdy, was reading some older threads on the osu-okc application process and figured why not start one for fall 2019.

How many points did you apply with? I applied with 88 points hope it is enough this time around. The waiting game is brutal at best. I hope with the school closings recently it doesn’t push the notification letters back to much.

Good luck to everyone that applies

I've uploaded my documents to mCE but still a little confused.. Am I supposed to submit it before we get the drug screen and back ground check?

I think we should make a page on facebook to communicate through!

You upload everything but background and drug screen. You have until the 15th to get background check done if you haven’t already. As far as Facebook goes feel free to start one if you are willing to. I know nothing about Facebook (cringes)!!! Haha

I have done the background check and drug screen but haven't gotten any of it back yet.. the email I received but it wasn't too clear if I should submit or just upload the docs. I also didn't know what it meant by creating a file for immunizations since they're all separate on mCE. I just uploaded my immunization page with all on one page to each one listed on the website. Sorry if I'm not making sense! ?

Did anyone pick up scrubs/textbooks yet or is everyone waiting for orientation?

I'm getting most of my books through Amazon or elseviers website since I have found it's cheaper. And I'm waiting until August to get my scrubs since I'm not sure if they have everything already at the bookstore

Attached is information on My Clinical Exchange (mCE). This is an online data base where you will upload all of your immunization records and your CPR Certification. You will need to create a file for your immunizations to upload. On your TB skin test – mCE will only allow 1 paper in that area, if your TB test are on 2 different pieces of paper, you will need to create a 1 page document – making sure your name and both dates of when the test was read is shown. Once I receive evidence of everyone’s background check and drug screen, I will send you all an “attestation letter” to upload in both of those areas.

The TB Skin RENEWAL date is 1 year from the date read…(example if you the last TB test was read on 6/15/19, the renewal date would be 6/15/20)

Please the FLU shot area blank

In the LIBILITY Insurance area, you will put the date of 04/25/2020.

PLEASE leave the TMS area blank – that does not pertain to the OSU-OKC Nursing Students.

You do not upload background check or the drug screen. Osu-okc get those sent to them by the lab and background check company for their records not for the clinical sites to see. So again, do not upload drug screen or background check. I called swimmer and that is what she told me

Great, thank you!

Good luck, all! I just graduated from the program in May. Be prepared to devote all your time to school. In the end it is SO worth it though.

Thanks. Would you say it would be hard to try and work while in the program? Any tips on what we can do to prepare now before classes start?

Working is definitely possible! we had about half the students in our class working part time jobs in addition to the program. As for tips:

-study some of the most common abbreviations in nursing (you can google a list of them). Getting a leg up on these will help you a lot!

-figure out what study method is best for you and STICK TO IT. Changing study methods in the middle of nursing school can result in lower test scores! Also, find a designated area of your house that can be your “study space” and deck it out with lights, candles, a keurig or whatever you need to make it cozy

-there is free printing on the 2nd floor of the learning resource center, as well as in the agriculture building. USE IT. You will have so much printing to do throughout the program and there’s no need to waste your own ink

-have good firewall protection on your laptop. All exams are done on the computer and the program you have to purchase (examsoft) is known to mess up your computer. Make sure it’s protected.

-buy the companion materials that go with your textbooks. For example, when studying from your fundamentals book, make sure you have the “fundamentals success” book as well. There is usually a companion book/study guide for each book used in the program.

-the first test is scary because nursing school tests are nothing like any other exam you’ve ever taken. You will leave feeling defeated and freaked out. It is OKAY. You will get the hang of it!!

One more question. Is it best to have the physical copy of the books or better to have the ebook?

Personally, I liked having the hard copy so that I could highlight and follow along with my finger.

I’m still finishing up my stuff... it says I need a tdap in the last ten years. I tried to get one at the health department and they said I should have had it when I was 11, so they won’t do it, but I don’t have proof that I had it at 11 y/o. I have my immunization records from the high school I attended and I finished my tdap as a child in 2002. I know I had a tetorifice shot in an ER a few years ago but I’m still trying to track down proof. Does a tetorifice booster count and if it doesn’t how am I supposed to get someone to give me a tdap?
