Hello all! I hope to start this thread as the official Q&A for the applicants of the Ohio State Graduate Entry Masters of Nursing/Nurse Practitioner Program Summer 2018 enrollment! I am in the works of applying, getting my last letter of rec together and studying for the GRE. I'm so excited!! How about you??
Hi all! So did everyone hear back yet?!? My app status still says pending and it is killing me! Lmk if you're in the same boat. A BIG congrats to all that have been accepted so far! And to those that haven't, it just means another track in your journey is meant for you right now, keep pushing!
In for Midwifery!
For all of those that didn't make it, let your disappointment be the fire that makes you come back stronger next year. Feel your passion and own it. But do not feel overcome by it.
I was rejected last year, and spent all of my time volunteering, networking, and getting involved. I got my personal statement edited professionally, I sought advice from people in the field, and I never stopped reading/watching/listening to everything I could about midwifery.
If I can do it, anyone can do it. Seriously. Please don't give up. I'm so glad I didn't.

Can I ask what kind of volunteer opportunities you did?

I volunteered as a doula with my local hospital (this took some time- I had to network and make some connections first), I volunteered with the Midwifery Association of my home state (probably the easiest to get involved with as they have an annual conference that requires volunteers), and I also spent the year lobbying to get doula services covered by medicaid in my home state (again, a lot of networking).
I hope this helps!
Awesome, thank you! I contacted the college today to see how to improve my application. They said the faculty noted I had a really strong statement and reference letters. My overall undergrad GPA ended up being 3.51 (3.6 during undergrad at osu but with classwork I took for a year at uc it average 3.51). They said ultimately that's why i wasn't accepted as the average GPA is a 3.53... so yeaaaaaa! They suggested taking graduate level coursework and reapplying next year. They didn't mention me needing more volunteer experience but it couldn't hurt.

Accepted into the FNP specialty! So surprised and happy!! I am trying to decide between OSU and Case Western though! Congrats to everyone who was accepted!!
For those who weren't, keep trying!! Case Western is still accepting applications and there are many programs (like Loyola in Chicago and Duquesne in Pittsburgh) that enable you to earn your BSN quickly and who have MSN programs that you can then apply to!
