Ok, I just found out I have to orient a nurse on my unit this weekend. I have only been a nurse since July and I've only been at my LTC job for a little more than a month. I still don't know a lot and I'm still learning so how am I supposed to orient someone else?! Sorry, just a little frustrated and I need to vent. Any tips for me? How long were you a nurse before you had to orient someone.

Wow, that's way too soon to give you that kind of responsibility. Have you spoke with your manager about this? Are there no other more experienced nurses available?
I suppose if there is no way out of it, you could try to mirror the way your own orientation went. You mentioned that you would be orienting this weekend. Are you maybe just filling in until the permanant preceptor is back?

Definitely voice your concerns to management. See what they have to say.

This happens in LTC sometimes. Let your supervisor know that you don't feel ready to orient a new employee. If there is no way out then just do your best and try to stay positive. Good luck.

You should talk to your Director of Nursing and express your concerns, if she doesnt understand its time to look for another job

There will be times that it happens. Voice your concerns and if you stll have to do it, then just show that nurse what you know. Is never fun but this too shall pass.
