Hey everyone! I just got back from orientation and as promised, I will tell you all about it.
For one, I was pretty surprised to see that almost everyone that was there were older adults. Not that I have anything against that but it leaves me worrying about how well I will relate to my classmates...but then again I have always kind of gotten along better with older people because kids my age can be pretty immature at times and not as serious about their studies.
It was not as exciting as I expected...They basically told us to go home and enjoy our families and make sure that they are aware that after aug.18 they won't see us for about a year. They explained that they have a 100% Nclex pass rate and they intend on keeping it that way so their program is pretty intense...Anything below an 80% you're automatically dropped! There is a test everyday for the first 10 wks and NO MAKE UP EXAMS!!! If you are one minute late you are not allowed in for the test giving you an automatic ZERO and remember... anything below an 80% and you're automatically dropped so getting caught in traffic can cost you the program! Thats scares me...I guess thats their way of weeding people out. Anyway, failing is NOT an option for me so I will get through it.
Aside from that, it was pretty basic, fee lists, book lists, registration forms....etc. Now I CAN'T WAIT to start...I know I should be enjoying the rest of my vacation but...I can't help it!
Wow, that does sound intense! I've heard that many programs are like yours in how strict they are, so I'm wondering what mine will be like.
My school seems to be one of the only ones that doesn't have an orientation. We have a three day "workshop" the first week of classes, so my guess is that it will serve as our orientation. They serve breakfast the first day which sounds unusual to me, but maybe it's a good sign.... Thanks for sharing!!! :heartbeat
LOL, I am one of those "older adults". :uhoh3:In fact twice your age, but the funny thing was what I saw was a lot of "younger adults" which made me feel "old", like I was going to be the odd one out. I think a lot of the older people in the room were there as support for the actual student. At the table where I was sitting I was surrounded by people who were in their late teens, early twenties! You are going to be fine; you're intelligent, well spoken, have put a lot of thought into this, and have the desire and motivation to finish!

OOOHHH!! I'm soo excited! I know it's really pathetic and a little dorky but i have been anxiously awaiting orientation nearly as much as I will be the first day of school! I personally don't know one single person who has been to my school and the school for some odd reason seems very vague when it comes to diclosing info about the program (telling me I will learn everything I need to know at orientation) and so I have had a really tough time waiting (psyching myself out playing guessing games). Now I will finally know what this school is all about....I'm nervous but excited too!!!
Wish me luck, I'll be back on tomorrow to tell how it goes!
