For anyone who has taken this class...how difficult was it? or was it even difficult?

Depends what subjects you excel at. I found it to be a very hard and challenging class. If you prepare yourself and don't slack off though and don't get behind, you should be able to do well at it.

I once attempted Org Chem during a 6-week summer session and I ran away screaming at the end of the first week! :rotfl: I proudly took the W. I was doing prereqs at the time for a completely different field which I have since abandoned preparing for, having since discovered that I should be in nursing. Thank goodness I don't have to take that course! I think CRNA's have to take it but I'll pass, thanks!

I got your PM but I can't send messages yet :)
Organic was tough but I had a good professor. First semester was the basics, second semester was using the basics. Like he'd give us a starting compound, a final compound, and we had to tell how to get to that final compound.
He curved our grades, and I remember second semester our curves were 30-40 points.
That said, there was a national test we had to take at the end of the second semester...from what I heard we all did very well.
Keep in mind, though, I was a chemistry minor...but I found organic so much easier than inorganic. Did better in those two classes than I did in basic chem.
thanks for the quick reply...I guess 50% depends on me and 50% on the teacher....I will be taking elementary organic chemistry (I wonder if thats easier because it sounds like a basic class)
How much study time did you invest just for that class?
That made me laugh out loud LOL. My previous college, we had to take it as a pre req. My new college doesn't make you, but I already had Inorganic and Organic done.

That's interesting ... I took Inorganic Chem 1 & 2 and found it quite manageable, got A's in both. But in hindsight, the professors DO make a difference. I really hated the Organic prof .. he really did not know what he was talking about!

my chem class (chemistry for healthcare professionals) covers general, organic, and biochem. my hardest class so far. 3 chem classes in one semester supposedly. i’m just not any good at it but the class is really interesting. the professors talks about how hard organic chem is and how we are only scratching the surface. i'm just glad this is the only class i need even if i have to take again.
I think also it's what you have a mind for. For some reason, the concepts in inorganic were harder for me. I was the same way with calculus and precal...could not do trig to save my life, but I was an ace at calculus.
Then again, I was also a freshman when I took inorganic and a junior with organic...so my study habits were a lot better. I was used to not studying at all and being able to pull awesome grades in high school. Wake up call

Not a good idea ..... Organic Chem is very time consuming :anbd: .......
I was just talking to a guy in my Patho Class today that is taking Organic Chem. He is very smart, he has gotten A's on everything in Patho, even our hardest exam he got 1 point shy of an A. The class average was a low C on that exam. So he is very smart and dedicated. I heard him talking about how this class he is having to study ridiculous hours because he is having such a hard time with it and I asked him what class and he said Organic Chem. I didn't really struggle a lot in it, it was tough but it wasn't the death of me. So it really does vary person to person.
