Organic and Biochemistry Course

Hello fellow pre-nursing students,

There is a large variation of prerequisites for different nursing schools. For many schools in Chicago, taking a course with a large amount of time spent on organic is required instead of just General Chemistry 2. I would like this to be a support group forum for students such as myself having to suffer through additional and intensive chemistry courses such as organic and biochemistry. I am taking this course at Truman College in Chicago called Chemistry 212.

If there are any students who are currently taking this or previously taken this course at this college, could you respond please with suggestions on how to get through this course?

I took an Organic and Biochemistry class last semester. It wasn't bad at all. The organic part requires large amounts of memorization. You'll understand why once you start. I used flashcards to memorize everything. And do lots of practice problems. The biochemistry part was much easier. If you've taken A&P and microbiology, much of what you learn has been covered previously. The hard part for us on that part was we had lots of questions on tests and quizes that where basically short essays. I had another chance to mess up DNA replication, transcription, and translation.

Similar to the above poster I learned alot of O-chem (which I am taking in the Fall) in microbiology.
