Order of science classes

Published

I am brand new to this pre-nursing thing. :) I just got back from seeing an advisor and determining which classes I need to get into nursing school. I already have a degree in something else so most of my credits counted. I still need to take the following classes. Can anyone recommend the order in which I take them? Do I need Chemistry to understand Microbiology?

Basic Bio*

Microbiology

Anatomy and Phys 1 and 2

Basic Chemistry

*I took this in college already, but it was more than 10 years ago. The advisor suggested I take it again as a refresher to help me get through Microbiology. What do you think? Should I take it or not?

Thanks!!

I am in the same position. I am working on my pre req's for Nursing next Septmeber. I was advised to take Bio, then Chem, then Micro and A&P 1 & 2. Good Luck......

I had to take Bio before I could get into Anatomy, and Chemistry before Physio or Micro.

I took Bio one semester, chemistry the next, followed by Anatomy, then Physio, then Micro. It took me longer to finish all the prereqs but by taking only one science class at a time, I found I could focus on difficult concepts better.

At our school, having Anatomy before Physio definately helps.

Hope this info helps!

At my school we had to take chemistry before A&P. I did not take basic biology because it was not required. One semester I took chemisty, then A&P I, then A&P II and micro together. Taking the two together was way too hard (I took pharmacology the same semester). I talked to the ADN director and she suggested that I drop A&P II because it would not hurt my chances of getting in the program. Taking chemistry before A&P and micro seems like a good choice. It helped out a lot.

Thanks! I just went to an advisor today and examined the catalog in more detail. It looks like I should take them in this order:

chem

biology

microbiology

the two A&P's

I also just found out that my math classes from 10 years ago may not count towards credits as I had hoped. :( So I may have to take them, too. Oh well, I'll get there. I'm going to go to the nursing advisor next week instead of the regular student advisor and see if I can get a straight answer.
