Hi

I am a pre-nursing student and am going to Nursing School in September of 2008 and want to know the positives and negatives about being a OR Nurse.

Oh and I also want to know how much they make. I can't find it hadly anywhere.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to allnurses! :)

You might want to check out the OR forum here, I'm sure people over there can answer your specific questions. Good luck to you!

Good luck to you. Welcome. Moving to the OR forum, since your questions specifically address them.

Hiya-- I'm a new grad who started in the OR back in July. I LOVE it. A couple of points:

The OR is VERY team oriented. You work closely with the same people day after day. This can be good or bad, depending on that team (ours is terrific)

I really love having only one patient at a time. In school, I hated having several floor patients and having to keep track of who got what meds at what time etc. In the OR you concentrate solely on one patient and all details of their case. Once you report off to PACU, you move on to the next patient. Again, this is a positive/negative thing. You don't get much patient care continuity and almost never find out how that patient made out after surgery, unless they have to return to the OR :-( .
