Hi everyone. I wanted to throw out a thread to hear some opinions about Grand Valley State University's nursing program. I plan on doing prerequisites and then applying to their second-degree accelerated BSN program, but am just a little hesitant after hearing virtually nothing about their program either on this forum or in any other news. And then Governor Granholm's 'stimulus' for the Michigan nursing colleges to get money did not include GVSU. (?!) So, before I enter the program, can I get an opinion from you out there? Is there any reason why I should be cautious about this degree?
I am also considering moving on to an additional degree down the road. My plan is to nurse in ICU for a few years and then apply to become either a nurse practitioner in family practice or an anesthetist, although the lack of local anesthetist (sorry for the pun) programs make this a slim possibility. I'm not sure if the college affects your credentials on getting into any advanced nursing programs. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Katy

Hi,
I graduated from GVSU in April of 2005 and loved the program. I feel I had an excellent education there. I also work with several RNs that graduated from their program. No worries... Good luck!

I don't know about the second-degree program, but their 4-year BSN program takes applications from the pre-nursing students each semester. Last I heard, if you don't have a 4.0 when you apply from pre-nursing to nursing, you won't get in because of the number of students applying. The second degree program may be different.
Wow, things have changed then, teeniebert. I graduated in 2005 and it wasn't that strict then. (thank goodness!)
