Opinion on Humber College RN program

Published

HELLO!

i'm sorry if this is already a thread, i looked but couldnt really find one

I was just accepted to Humber College for bachelor of nursing degree. It is my first choice, and i am just about to accept. I wanted to get some opinions of nurses who have graduated from, or are attending humber college.

What do you think of it? Is it really difficult? Did you get the placement you wanted?

Anything that might be helpful would be GREAT

thanks a bunch everyone!

For the ppl who do end up attending. Can you let us know what we missed? Kinda wish i could go now!

Sure..I'll let you know. By the way, there was no math/english testing required, is that right?

I dont think so. My sister goes to Ryerson and she didn't have to but apparently some schools dont tell you till you start. And yes let me know what i missed :)

Anything??

did anyone have CPR classes today at Humber? Do we have to bring anything?

Hows every ones classes going?

A lot of work, studying, tests, papers..no sleep..but made some really good friends...so far.. what about you?

To all those currently attending Humber, I have a few questions I'm hoping you can answer! I'll be starting the second entry program in January and so far I've gotten no answers from the school so maybe you have information that will also be relevant to my program.

Scrubs - is there a Humber uniform that we need to wear or are we allowed to wear whatever coloured/styled scrubs we want? Even if we wear the scrubs we want, will we need to buy different ones for our placements to go with the organization's rules?

Class schedules - my SRS says that I won't get any registration info until 4-6 weeks before the start of the semester. Is that the same as yours was? Is it a mad dash when the schedules go up to select yours before the section is full or did you find that you had time to log in and select what you wanted?

Clinicals - I think you start in second semester, but have you had any information yet about how clinicals are chosen? Are the options posted on SRS and you just sign up for the one you want?

Residence - did any of you who are first year students get into the suite-style residence?

Any and all help related to Humber, the nursing program, etc will be really helpful!! Congrats to all of you who are almost done the first month :)

For Clinicals....yes ..... the information will be posted on SRS and you have to select your choice......it is not necessary that you will get the your choice...:) . it depends on how fast you are at selecting the choice...

Please get adequate sleep :) I did...all through nursing school, and I'm sure I did better as a result. You will not succeed long term without adequate sleep, food, fun. The key is organization and planning ahead. Sleeping at night so you stay awake in class.

I was in your shoes not that long ago...first year for me was 2006. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. And remember...everything you learn years one and two is foundational nursing knowledge. You are preparing for that RN exam all the way through. If you look at it that way, you won't go wrong. Good luck!

Hi Kate

im just wondering..how is your nursing experience at humber going

i currently got accepted to humber and georgebrown for RN..im debating where to go

Heyy,

I've enjoyed my first year :)

I really do recommend the program. The work is all manageable, if you're organized and focused. First year really hasnt been that bad. I hear that second year is a little bit tougher, but i think if i work hard i'll get through it!

Most of the prof's i've had have been really great and supporting!

I don't know much about the george brown program, but I do know that the Humber Program has a really good repuation of churning out great nurses!

Feel free to ask me any other questions :)

Hi Kate - I'm so glad you came back to this thread. I've been accepted to the Humber-UNB collaborative program for the upcoming school year. Any tips? particularly for someone who's been out of school for over 10 years :D

TIA!

Michelle
