HELLO!

i'm sorry if this is already a thread, i looked but couldnt really find one

I was just accepted to Humber College for bachelor of nursing degree. It is my first choice, and i am just about to accept. I wanted to get some opinions of nurses who have graduated from, or are attending humber college.

What do you think of it? Is it really difficult? Did you get the placement you wanted?

Anything that might be helpful would be GREAT

thanks a bunch everyone!

No, i don't know anything about it!

have you tried calling the nursing department?

Hi Danamoss,

I went to Humber, so I know the answer to your 'orientation question'. Its not till the end of August/beginning of Sept. Hope this helps.

I am a recent graduate from HUMBER COLLEGE in the bachelors degree program of NURSING. HONESTLY, as a student you wouldn't want to be stressed out already as much as you are getting from studying. HUMber professors and staff will make your study and student life a HELL! Professors build their reputation by failing students. Professors are unprofessional. Staff -even the secretaries are not approachable. They act like they are doing you a favor when you are paying them. HAVE YOU SEEN COLLEGE STUDENTS CRY outside the classroom?? I HAVE WITNESSED several times.. HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED students petitioning for the professor to be kicked out and still be unsucessful?? HUMBER COLLEGE will make you experience that. HAVE YOU EXperienced students suing their professors?? HAVE you heard about students in their FINAL year with good standing in academics STILL FAILING.. JUST ONE MORE SEMESTER TO GRADUATE???HUMBER COLLEGE has that. SO, if you want your $$$$$$ be wasted.. THEN Go to HUMBER>. but if you want your student life be a good one.. I SUGGEST YOU DONT.. I wish, transferring schools was easy for their RN program.. because if it was... I would've transferred right after first year. When I was starting at HUmber College, i referred HUmber COllege to a friend when she had an option to either go to Ryerson or York. She went to Humber and now, shes telling me about all the politics and the bad experiences shes having and her other classmates are having. I honestly felt bad that i referred her to HUmber.. But i was blinded in my first years.. If you are already going to HUmber, I suggest (as a former student) you really watch your back with the professors and the program coordinators. because if you get on their bad side, they become unprofessional and can fail you if they want to. remember, they are marking your papers. So, get a professional to proof read your papers before handing them in (don't pay a professional to do that) but if you know someone, do it. You always have to watch your back... good luck

Ohhh man :(

when did you graduate?

if you dont mind me asking, did you fail any classes? is it really that easy to fail?

Thanks so much for letting me know! It is really hard to find any information on Humber's website and I'm so glad you helped! Thanks again!

Hi kate,

I graduated this year... :) I am soo thankful i am finished.. and i dont ever want to step any foot on Humber College ever again... No, i did not fail any courses. I am one of the "lucky" ones. A lot of my friends failed in one way or another though. I've had a lot of friends from different batches because they were held back a year (Humber calls them "interrupted students") from failing (you'll know when you get there). Some students (who were fighters) almost failed, but they were fighters and knew how to watch their backs ( i.e. having professionals proof read their essays or bring recorder when they are talking to their professors) so they passed. And with regards to the information sharing. "YES, HUmber is like that. They send information late- makes you worry and not know what is happening. The graduates this year found out the date for graduation one month before the ceremony date! WHAT IS THAT?? But anyways, good luck! Check your srs from time to time for more information on what you should be doing also the blackboard. But, im not sure if you have access to blackboard during this time. With regards to everything you need for clinical, i.e. CPR, police check.. you guys should be doing that.. if you don;t have it by clinical, you will not be able to go for the next semester and that means.. you will be held back for a year (happened to half of the students during first year). Humber's CPR course is expensive.. i never got my cpr from HUMBER.. 90 bucks is too mch.. there are some where you can get it for 30 bucks.. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the info!

I have my CPR, i just have to get the police check..and i read somewhere about some shots you need, you have any idea about sstuff like that?

sounds tough, congrats on getting through that!!

Thanks, yeah.. U have to hand all those requirments to paramed.. Paramed lets the school know if you are eligible to attend clinical.. All those ibformation i believ youll see at the Humber website at the health sciences section and clinical placement requirements.. Youll need to get n95 mask fit testing and immunizatiom records.. Print the form from there get it completed with your family doctor.. Then fax it to paramed.. Those immunization records i suggest you start doing soon because it takes weeks to be done and its hard to get an appointment with Paramed. Hope that helped :)

Sorry for all the questions, but do you know if i complete everything in the summer and book my paramed appointment early in september, will it all still be valid throughout the year? is there a time frame in which you have to do it?

I believe so.. Yes there is a timeframe for the validity of some of the requirements. I.e. Cpr, police check.. Ull have to check the preplacement website to find out more about it. But you have to have all those requiremnts before your placemnt. When i was in first year we started our clinicals in jan.. But im not sure now with u guys... Coz Humber kept changing.. The paramed was a new thing stRted last year..we used to just hand in everything on the day of our clinical to our clinical instructor ( w/c was less complicated and we did not have to pay) so jst check the health sciences website and find out on your timetable when clinical is stArting so that you can organize your sched. No worries.. I was in your position. Glad i could help

Toronto Police is sloooow. Get on those police checks ASAP or you may be denied going to clinical. I've graduated from Ryerson last year and moved to AB for work. I couldn't wait on TO police, because I had a start date. I went to Peel Police and got the check 3 weeks later. Look into it, and see if you can go there. Every summer, I would submit the form to TO police in April, and it never came back till the end of July. GL and congrats on your acceptances.

Thanks for letting us know about the police check, I know it's long process to get it done. Perhaps you could let us know if we need a letter from Humber to hand in with our application or should we just let TO police know for what reason we need the form and they will know? Thanks in advance, you have no idea how much you helped some already desperate, future nursing students. Ouch.
