Opinion on Humber College RN program

HELLO!

i'm sorry if this is already a thread, i looked but couldnt really find one

I was just accepted to Humber College for bachelor of nursing degree. It is my first choice, and i am just about to accept. I wanted to get some opinions of nurses who have graduated from, or are attending humber college.

What do you think of it? Is it really difficult? Did you get the placement you wanted?

Anything that might be helpful would be GREAT

thanks a bunch everyone!

1) Courses are blocked based. Come August you'll have about 5 or so blocks to choose from & that will be your schedule.

2) Clinicals are the chance where you get to practice all the things you've learned in your nursing theory classes. You won't start clinical's until second semester though. Your clinical teacher will choose if you pass or fail. If you miss a certain number of clinical days, if you're never prepared, I'm pretty sure that would contribute to failing.

Labs have to do with anatomy so based on what you've learned that week, you might be doing some experiments.

3) it all depends on your schedule. First semester I had Monday's off & then had one 8:00am class Tuesday, was at school from 11:40-2:00 on Wednesday, and my longest day was Thursday was from 8:00-5:00. Friday was just like a regular school day 8:00-3:00

4) I don't think there's any difference in how the courses are for males than females. This year there were I good amount of males on the program so I wouldn't be too worried. I'd say it was about 30% males. And there's no discrimination at all that I've seen.

5) And yes, so if you fail a core course (e.g. Your nursing classes or anatomy) then you won't be able to move on (as they're prerequisites for the next semesters courses) and you'd have to wait until the following year to continue.

Hey guys!

I'm in the first year of the UNB/Humber Nursing Collab program and I'm wondering what electives are easy to do for second semester? I was thinking of doing Philosophy of Love and Sex. I wanted something light so it will make the work load easier.

Specializes in geriatrics.

Philosophy of Love and Sex is interesting, not easy. The course had A LOT of reading and 2 major assignments.

Politics and Film was easy and most sociology courses are fairly easy.

It all depends on what block/schedule you have. If possible take personality psychology, it's literally a repeat of intro to psych

What course did you take and who was your prof? If you still remember. I really just wanna make next semester less of a hassle.

hi guys,

i am wondering about your thoughts on the second entry program? what's the sched like? the profs? the classmates? the work load?

Hi

I would like to take the 2nd entry RN program at humber. Please let me know how difficult and the hours of class. So they start early and end late?

I am from Orangeville. Do I have to take my placement down there?

Thank you for any info.

what happens if you fail just one course in second semester of year 1? I heard that if you fail first semester you have to take two semesters off but what about second sem? when would you come back to do that course? after 1 semester so you are a year behind or what?

I don't know that I'd say Humber was any easier than anywhere else. The pass requirement are pretty stringent and there's really no pleading for clemency. Based on some quick math I did at the start of the semester, looks like we lost about 70-80 students since first semester.

If you fail one of the four required courses in first semester, you cannot do any of the required courses in second semester. You have to wait for the next year's group of new students to start in the fall and join them in the class you failed then continue on to second semester. Essentially, failing one course can delay you a year. The only exception is the elective courses as you may be able to take another English course to get the credit.

I'm in first year, second semester. I'll answer what I can for you!

What happens if you fail a course in second semester of year 1? how would that work out?

Hello, do you get in without an enterance test if you are in the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program? how does it work going from GAS to the RN program please, I am confused.
