Surgical Tech certification

Specialties Operating Room

Published

Hi, I graduated from an accredited surgical technology program in 2006, worked in the OR in 06 and 07, and went to work in the autopsy suite at the local medical examiners office in 07 and 08. I haven't actually scrubbed since 2007, and I never obtained my certification because at that time it wasn't required in the state of Texas. My question is, can would I be eligible to take my certification exam now, or has too much time lapsed? Would I have to re-take the entire course? Or could I just study on my own to be able to pass the exam? Thank you so much.

You would need to investigate with the agency that offers the CST exam as far as eligibility.

I would check with AST- ast.org and the TX state assembly may be able to help as well. I do see non certified positions posted on occasion and as long as you attended an accredited program, I wouldn't think it would be a problem. But you may want to speak with someone there to get the right answer. good luck

I'm not seeing anything about a time limit from graduation to taking the exam, but you can always contact and ask.
