Operating Room Nurse Needing Scrub Experience

Published

Are there any OR nurses here that have circulating experience, but do NOT have scrubbing experience?

Were you able to find scrubbing experience? If so, how?

Have you been hired to a hospital that "requires" scrubbing experience, but ONLY have circulating experience? If so, what set you apart?

How much time should I wait to gain experience before applying to a hospital in the Bay Area?

I had zero scrubbing experience until I moved into cardiac surgery where scrubbing was part of the orientation. However, I do not scrub currently and only circulate. Have you contacted someone at the facilities you are considering applying for to see if they have leniency on any positions requiring scrub experience.

Most RNs these days havent learned scrubbing as much as they did in the past. Things seem to be turning around a bit in the past few years though and more programs are teaching the scrub role to the RN staff. I always taught all of my staff RN circulators to scrub within their first year in my OR as a director or manager.

I have, but most seem to want scrub experience at this time.

Can you share your background with me?
