Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)

I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!

This happened to me today as well, I was accepted into honours science instead of compressed BSCN at Trent.

the same happened to me last year, when I spoke to admissions they said the point of admitting to honours science is so that the student can complete one year of science courses to bump up GPA and then apply for BSCN compressed the following year, so no I dont think theyll still consider your application for nursing :(

my transcript with my final grades for this semester hasn't been sent in yet so i don't understand why they made the decision so quickly. if my final grades this semester shows significant improvement and my gpa gets a lot higher, will they reconsider? I'm gonna be getting a BSc at convocation so there's no point of me doing another bsc all over again :(

The same thing happened to me last year...my final grades for my last semester weren't official from my school until June so they gave me the alternate offer and told me to apply again for the next year when my grades would be official (although I accepted and am now in a different program so that won't be happening haha). Their reasoning seemed to be if they can fill the program with people who made the cutoff AND had their marks official already they weren't going to wait around for other people's official marks to be in.

I even got a letter straight from my school stating my grades for that semester (not an official transcript though because that wasn't available until the end of June) and brought it to the coordinators for the program and they still wouldn't take it. They didn't seem to be very accommodating about things like this last year, and it doesn't appear to be any different this year.

Oh wow so i guess their program is full now? Some spots may open up if others choose a diff school though. Yea, this is a bit unfair and a waste of my money. Their bsc offer means nothing to me :(

Unfortunately, generally once you receive an alternate offer to another program you're no longer considered for the program you applied for. Very sorry to those of you who didn't make it in this year.

If you're truly set on nursing, please don't give up! This is only a bump in the road. You can apply again next year or whenever you feel ready. I myself took quite the bumpy path to get here, and am now 1 year away from graduating from nursing school. :) Good luck to you in your journey!

Just got my U of T acceptance!! Can't wait to meet everyone in the Fall :)

does anyone know if there's a facebook group for our year yet?

Does anyone have any insight b/w the program at U of T vs. Mac. I am having a difficult time deciding

Congrats! Me too! Do you mind sharing why you would choose U of T over other schools?

I got an offer to Mac's accelerated about 2-3 weeks ago, so best of luck to anyone still waiting!

Mac or Queen's?

I'm a little nervous about the extensive PBL environment at Mac. I've heard really great things but I've also heard really negative things, like how much extra time it takes, the amount of group work (and all of the difficulties associated with group work) and how frustrating that approach can be.

On the contrary, I've hear that U of T is more didactic and a larger program.. which I guess is what I am used to but there are pros and cons with that too. IF I were to choose U of T, it would be because of the city and its reputation, and also to avoid some of the crappy stories I've heard about all the group work at Mac. However, Mac is also reputable and the approach and smaller size might in fact be better.. Ahhh I'm torn!

These are things I've HEARD- no personal experience so I could be wrong. Any insight???
