Hello,
I recently spoke with a counselor from Maryville University regarding the MSN in AGACNP. When schools like this are 100% online, how do you get skills like central line insertion, intubation, arterial line insertion, and suturing (etc)? You just talk to your preceptor when you get to that point in your program and have him/her sign you off on them?
Thanks for the help!

Please talk to someone at the school and ask them.
Many online programs require some on-campus time - usually once or twice a semester - so you can learn and practice skills. Others require a preceptor to teach you these and sign off that you learned them. Again, you need to ask someone at the school.

Maryville does NOT have any campus time whatsoever (same as Walden).
To the OP: for ACNP, I would steer clear of any program that doesn't offer you some on-campus skills training prior to starting your clinicals. Your preceptors are going to expect that you have knowledge on how to do these procedures and have at least practiced them in a simulation lab prior to doing so on a real patient.
FWIW, I have a co-worker/friend who is in the Maryville program and he hates it. They have a TON of group projects. Very difficult to accomplish when everyone is spread across the country and only available online. He wishes he had gone to a different school. Caveat emptor.

Please do not attend a program that does not have you come to campus for hands on training and evaluation. These schools are predatory and are doing their students and the profession a disservice.
