Online RN school???

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I've been looking into going to school online. I live in a really small town and its nearly impossible to get into the one local program. So I've looked into chancellor, excelsior, and achieve test prep. For the Associates program I was quoted 2500 and for the bachelor's degree 5020 then enroll in Indiana State. I am torn on what choice to make it is actually cheaper for me to enroll in Achieve with the promotion they have going on then it would be enrolling in excelsior. Any advice.... please.

You are missing the fact that you are not reducing costs by using the tutoring from Achieve Test Prep. You are increasing the cost of a degree from Excelsior by 25%. You are also forgetting the travel and lodging costs to take the CPNE in GA, WI or NY.

CPNE is not a clinical but a 3 day challenge exam of all associates level clinical nursing skills and care plans that is pass or fail graded.

Plus, not every state accepts EC. Some do, some do not. You would be better off doing ISU's LPN-BSN program. But you are still going to have to find your own clinical sites. Please continue to do research. This achieve prep is a scam pretty much. All it does is prep to take exams through EC. From what I have read on EC, there are a lot of hidden fees and it is very difficult to get through. More than passing CPNE, you need to pass NCLEX. Just do your research and be careful.

$325 plus $50 testing fee for nursing & 2 hr exams is almost $400.

Pre-req such as A&P is $440 plus $60 testing fee. ($500). CPNE is $2275, FCCA is $370 per exam (two exams). If you do exams not classes there is $1065 enrollment fee then $495 annual fee per year there after.

Clearly you have made up your mind already.

Please be sure your State Board of Nursing accepts Excelsior. A friend was accepted and took several classes on-line ($$$$$). Not long after the state board (Virginia) would no longer give accreditation to Excelsior. She was only able to re-coup about $800.

Good luck!

VA will now accept Excelsior grads by endorsement (not exam) . Only CA will not accept EC grads under any circumstance. There is a section on the EC website that details which states have additional requirements (AZ has a clinical practicum requirement for examples) and which states are endorsement only after working X hours as an RN
