Mt. Sac nursing program spring 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Good evening everyone.

My name is Nicole. I made this forum to connect with potential Mt Sac nursing students who may be applying for Spring 2018 admission. I'm am applying and wanted to see everyone's status, and maybe gain some insight on what is to come. I have not taken my HESI yet; I am taking it August 17th. I am also working on finishing up a summer class to know where my gpa stands for points on the multi criteria. I am between 76 and 83 points depending on my HESI score, gpa, and work experience. Not sure what the cutt off will be for the Spring 2018 semester, but I'm hoping I will have enough points. Hope everyone is having an awesome night. Hope to hear from future students.

does anyone know how long from the application period before they send out confirmation emails of getting in the adn program at mtsac?

You should probably be getting an email to make an appointment to verify your documents no later than like Oct 4thish, then once they verify everyone's documents and get though everyone's appointments, they will send official acceptance emails beginning of November. They will also let you know if you have a for sure spot or your an alternate. Either way you have to attend the mandatory orientation in January. If you make to 60, you should know during the appointment in October, which will give you a pretty good idea if you are for sure accepted or not, even before official acceptance emails go out. I received all of my information on this through other forums of people from past semesters.

Thank you Nicole! Hopefully this application threshold is lower and we get in. If not, you should definitely be in with those extra points you mentioned :)

Hey everyone.

So I'm pretty bummed right now, but trying to keep my head up and be positive. Hoped to get a 90 on the HESI, which would put me at 78 points. Received a 89.2 on the HESI (only 1 or 2 more right questions for a 90), so it bumps me down 5 points putting me at 73 points. Applied to the program on Saturday anyway, but I know there is pretty much no way I am getting in. In the meantime, I am going to try to get work experience and maybe take Spanish 2, which will give me 5 or 6 more points. Hopefully that will be enough. So sad but I guess life always has bumps in the road and all you can do is find another way. Good luck to you all. Just curious, what did everyone get on the HESI? How many final points are you going in with?

Have a good day :)

So sorry to hear that! But don't lose hope! Is Mt. Sac your only choice ? I believe chaffey is a lottery based selection and their applications don't begin till sept 1

thanks. goodluck to all of us applying.

Hello Everyone,

I took my Hesi on Aug 15th. I got on the waitlist the Friday before and I only had the weekend to study.... after work lol. I ended up getting an 82% after three days of studying, which I'm okay with (given my circumstances). I'm going in with 76 points because I didn't get the extra 5 points that I could have got if I scored in the 90% and above. I know that those points are not the highest, but I'm praying that I would be able to get a spot in one of the 60 seats available.

Hi everyone. I had a question and it was if I could get my AA while doing the nursing program? Just because I know it goes off a point system. I'm a senior in high school and my school has connections with mt.sac i'm just torn between which school I want to go to. I already got accepted into GCU but I want to stay local. If you guys could all please tell me your experiences and please give me advice on what to do it would be much appreciated! I just want to know what you all had to do and for how long before getting into or applying to be in the nursing program. Thank you! :)

If you go to MT. Sac you would be getting your AA in nursing (ADN), but you would have to complete some prerequisites 1st before even applying to the nursing program. The nursing program is two years and it will probably take you two years to finish up your prerequisite.

HI Babani,

I just applied to the Mt SAC nursing program on Aug 16th, It took me over two years (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter semesters) to complete the necessary prerequisites: Eng. 1A, Psych 1A, Child 10, Speech 1A, Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology which had Chemistry 10 as its own prerequisite. Anatomy and Physiology takes two semesters; Chemistry and Microbiology also takes two semesters. All of the science classes included labs and your math and reading skills need to meet certain minimums as well (you will be tested prior to you first day of school).

If you work really hard, you might be able to finish all of the prerequisites in about a year and a half, but I think it's a bit more realistic to plan on it taking a bit longer.

For a number of reasons, I took additional class work in order to receive my first AA which is worth 8 points towards a the nursing programs 100 point scale. If it wasn't for my AA I would not of been in a good enough position to expect being accepted into the program which starts this Feb.; I would of had more work to do in order to boost my points to a high enough level before applying next spring.

I am not familiar with GCU but it might be a good idea to go there if you are confident in your ability to get into their nursing program after finishing two years of general ed. and the necessary prerequisites.

I do not think I am in a position to give you advice about what to do but I do understand your desire to stay local. Instead, here are some of the reasons I chose Mt. SAC: It's close to my home (friends and family), reputation of school and nursing program, I'll have no debt after I graduate, lots of diversity, good support system, I could have a year of experience by the time I finish my BSN, bridge program (RN to BSN) only takes twelve months to complete if it's done on the Mt. SAC campus, and I love the beach.

Hope this helps in some small way...

Regards...

Hey guys, I applied with 76 points but I applied on the very first day of the application period. I'm crossing my my fingers that it's enough to get me in. From what I've gathered no one has received an acceptance email yet??im getting so nervous waiting! does anyone know when we should be receiving that ?

I was wondering if anyone knows what the lowest scoring number was to get in for spring 2017 application period? I know the top 60 cut off was 77 points, but after all the alternates were chosen does anyone know what the cut off was then ?

They said to start looking towards the last week of September
