EMORY ABSN+MSN 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I decided to start a thread for the Fall 2018. Any current/prospective student on here? What GPA did you have when you applied and how competitive is the selection process? If you don't mind sharing your work experience and GRE score, that will be awesome. For those who are enrolled, do you mind sharing your experience?

Thank you for all of the info guys!

I e-mailed them and they told me that my application was complete however nothing has been checked off. They did, however, waive my GRE requirement. I guess, I'll patiently wait to see if anything else happens within the upcoming weeks.

As of today, all of my items have been checked off with the exception of an active GA RN license. I applied 8/15, trancripts received 8/22 and the GRE waiver done 9/18.

Hi guys!

I submitted my application as well and am so anxious to hear back. I have an undergrad GPA of 3.36 in Computer Science from a pretty good university, am working at a pretty well known tech company at the moment, 3.5 prereq GPA (but only 2 are complete...), and GRE of 157v, 157q, 5.0writing.

Does anyone know my chances of admission? I'm anxious that not having enough prereqs completed will hurt me, in addition to the low-ish prereq GPA. Thoughts?

Good luck to everyone! :)

Hi everyone! I submitted my application on August 5th. All of my transcripts and scores were marked as received by September 6th. I'm still waiting for all of of my prerequisites and my bachelors degree to get checked off. I have a B.S. in Psychology from a small, fairly competitive liberal arts college. I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.74. My prerequisite GPA is a 3.33 (I got a C in general chemistry freshman year). As for GRE scores I got a 160V, 156Q, and a 4.5 in the writing. I work full-time as an aide in a school for students with special needs and part-time as a behavior therapist for children with autism. I'm hoping to hear back sooner than later! Has anyone received a decision yet?

Hello!

Has anyone received a decision yet? Or a GRE wavier? Does anyone know when we may begin to receive decisions?!

Hi everyone,

I just received an email from Jasmine Hoffman that the dual track Midwifery and FNP program has been discontinued going forward. I applied to the dual track so this is coming out from left field since I already submitted my application and paid my fee.

Anyone else in the same boat and can share any additional insight? I already email them but am waiting for a response since my essay response was geared towards that specialty and I can't change my specialty selection now since everything has been submitted.

That's unfortunate! Will they let you choose FNP or Midwifery?

I applied to dual specialty Pediatric Primary/Acute and I haven't heard anything yet.

Thanks for replying!

Yes, it looks like they will let me choose either FNP or Midwifery but the question is how I am going to do that since everything is submitted and the essay prompt that I wrote was geared toward a dual speciality. I don't know if the e-mail was a general mail to everyone and those that already submitted are exempt and will be allowed into the dual track. So I wanted to know if this happened to anyone else? I submitted my application on July 6th so that I could get everything in time so I don't think that they don't have any more space in the dual program so I think they are just discontinuing the joint specialty.

I was looking forward to being able to complete both my midwifery and FNP since I want to be able to provide primary care services to the mothers and families that come to me for midwifery services. I personally would like to provide the full range of well women care not just during pregnancy and postpartum. I know that Emory did have a dual speciality with Women's Health NP but I think they discontinued that joint specialty as well even though it is still up on their website.

Overall, I am just a tad confused since this announcement was unexpected and coming after I had already submitted my application. I know that there was some confusion with regards to acceptances and deadlines from the 2017 cohort thread. I hope that this is not happening for our cohort as well.

Hey!

I actually just received my GRE waiver. I applied back July and in early Sept it was waived. But this week, it was updated to "Waiver Request Approved".

Hey TangoDeux,

So, I actually also applied for the dual track for Midwifery and FNP and I did not receive that message. Maybe it's on its way? I applied back in July and it seems like they are just now going through my application. Either way, I am disappointed to hear that they would make such a change during the application process. Just like you - I geared my essay response towards the dual specialty and quite frankly I was extremely excited that Emory offered the dual specialty.

Did Jasmine mention any alternatives or reasons for why they are discontinuing the dual program?

Hi @nurseB_2NP,

I found the e-mail in my spam folder as I was clearing it out and came across it. You might find it in your spam folder as well.

I thought the same as you and thought perhaps it hasn't been implemented yet but if you go on the website and look under the area that lists join specialties, Midwifery + FNP has a big disclaimer that says that the joint specialty is no longer accepting applications.

Joint Specialty Programs | Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing | University | Atlanta GA

The alternatives given were to decide on one track and the e-mail said to do so by clicking on the link and applying but since I have already applied, I am not sure how to go about doing that. I already sent a query to their nursing questions e-mail address for prospective applicants to ask the same questions that you posed above because I would like to know as well but so far they haven't come back to me yet.

Yeah, like you I was excited about the joint specialty as well more so because Emory is a great school and like I mentioned in my post above I believe that I would be an even more effective midwife if I also can provide primary care not just during or after their pregnancy but during the entire lifespan.
