Online exams

When a teacher gives an online exam that is able to be taken from anywhere, is it dishonesty to use your notes, book, and internet when taking it? And is it dishonesty or lacking integrity to work together - not cheating as in one submits a test and gives the answer to another but just looks up answers together?

Thank you for writing this out; no doubt countless students will heed your advice and be prepared! Of course there will also be those who don't, but....at least they were warned :)

I never considered that tests could be/would be different from student to student, but it makes sense! As long as the questions are all on the same level and on the same material covered, it doesn't matter what question Suzy got and what question Johnny got. Much like the NCLEX questions are taken from a computer bank of thousands of questions....you get what you get :)

Thanks again, great post.

Well even if I used the same 50 questions, I would still scramble them and scramble the answer choices, so that if a group decided to take the test at same time at one student' s house, it was still timed 60 minutes for 50 questions so really defeated attempts to take the test together with others. And yes they complained when I did this also! Hey I said you could use the book, notes etc. Then of course they take pictures of the computer screen! Which is the reason you can not go back!

Oh and so had student who planned cruise during final exam week & requested to take final exam early? Nope hope internet connection on cruise ship doesn't keep kicking her out! No early exams, no make up exams since I dropped lowest exam grade.

All of my online exams could be taken anywhere I had internet connection. We could use our books and notes but the exams were timed. They were basically timed where if you studied and knew the material then you would have enough time to complete the exam and most likely pass, however, if you are relying on your notes and book for answers then there is was no way you could complete the exam on time and receive a passing grade. I found that this method kept all of us students accountable, well if we wanted to pass the class that is. ;)

Update: exam complete. .I got a 94! It opened the same time for everyone but was timed. 50 multiple choice nclex style questions. I could do a lot without notes, I mean especially by process of elimination. I had trouble with nurse scenario questions.
