Hi - with my first prerequisite class, Human Biology A&P which is online, I see that reading and re-reading, and being very, very familiar with where everything is in the book, and knowing where to find the answers for the timed class tests works well. As I see facts several times, I actually do memorize some of them, but my question is about the reality of some of the chapters right now that I am getting very familiar with but not entirely "memorizing".
How does that work as I take more and more nursing classes? With my previous college degree (business, and later engineering) a few years ago, everything was memorized; we physically attended class and took the tests . But online allows you to test open-book; as long as you have studied the material a lot, you can quickly find it in the book of it without memorizing all of it for tests. I am nervous about future classes - online is great and doable. But will I really have to memorize all of this material in future nursing classes instead of being very familiar with it and looking some of it up? Hope my question makes sense......

It would be worth your time and effort to learn it now even if you can pass the current class without doing so.

I'm taking A&P online myself. I make sure I memorize everything. I know for a fact that my future classes won't be open book like the online class is, and the more I have in my head now, the easier it will be later. I cannot tell you whether or not I'll have to identify the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid bone or not, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. KWIM?

I agree with both of you, and I am trying to memorize everything, giving it my full attention and reading/studying it several times. The intent is not to short-change myself, but learn it thoroughly.
My fault for not explaining myself very well. I just wonder, for those who have had the nursing school classes, are those more advanced nursing classes in line with this same routine, and therefore, same study habits, or are they very different? I don't know about those future classes, as this is my first prerequisite. (I promise I will continue to study thoroughly, but still have that question)

Anatomy is very heavy in memorization. However, going forward your classes will focus more and more on critical thinking than on memorization. Even pre-reqs like physiology and pathophysiology focus less on actual memorization and more on case study application.
