I am wanting to take CHEM 101 & Microbiology 201 online.
(These will be my last 2 pre-req/gen ed classes)
Which of the two do you all recommend taking over the summer?
I read that you need to go to Terre Haute for 1 lab in BIOL 201...That is close to a 2-1/2 hour drive for me, so I was leaning toward taking it in the summer since road conditions wouldn't be an issue.
ANY & ALL advice is appreciated!! Is biology easier after taking chemistry? Do you believe both of these classes would be too tough to take in an 8-week session?
Thank you so much for any and all feedback given!!!! :bowingpur
They are both in the summer...I didn't ask her about taking CHEM at the same time because originally I wasn't planning on it. I had planned to take Micro and Advanced Physio together, then realized that was insane. I chose to take Chem and Micro together so both classes are online and I can spend more time at home with my family.
Well I un-registered myself for those classes then RE registered...since I keep getting conflicting information from the financial aid office...first its "If you exhausted all 24 credits during Fall and Spring, then you don't have any aid left to pay for summer classes" then they tell Melissa that "Summer is tacked onto 09-10 not 08-09 so its a whole new set of financial aid". ***. Anyone have any insight?
I have taken summer classes, and I had to get new loans for that. I only took one class last summer and got denied for loans b/c i had to take 2 classes (6 credits minimum to get aid). i would go to salliemae and fill out for it myself but since they changed it, i'm not sure how it works. last fall ivy tech sent me a link or whatever to accept financial aid, they told me what i qualified for.
See, I took summer courses last year but that was my first semester... and I qualified for aid then too...but I am thinking it was tacked onto the 07-08 school year. I also had a loan then. Ugh I don't know. Depending on how 102 goes, I may have to suck it up and pay out of pocket to retake 101!
Yeah, I am very confused about what financial aid year summer courses fall under. Thursday I was told 09/10, yesterday I was told 08/09. I only get student loans and I'm not eligible for any state grants because I already have a Bachelors and Masters. I got loans the first summer I went back to school (2008), but maybe that was 07/08 FAFSA? Anyone have any solid info on this? I really don't want (or know if we can afford to) pay out of pocket for 6 credit hours this summer.
I, too, am not eligible for grands or state aid...I only have student loans. I started classes last fall ('08) and was told back in August that if I planned on taking summer courses I needed to take that into consideration when I was deciding how much of my '08/'09 loan amount I was going to accept. I did not accept the full amount, so I am assuming that I can still use it for the summer courses...at least I hope. Unfortunately, the Financial Aid office is not always consistant with their information, but I am pretty sure based on discussions with others who have had student loans that summer is just a continuation of the '08/'09 school awards, and the '09/'10 awards are not available until August. I don't know if this helps at all, but I hope so!
Well I noticed something on CC today talking about finding a way to pay for summer and fall courses...It was a scholarship link and was talking about how award notices are sent out by April 25th. I went ahead and put in my information again (although I swear I did at the beginning of the school year) in hopes of qualifying for a couple of the single parent scholarships. We shall see. I am going to ask FA again..

Hi Melissa,
When you emailed the micro prof about the 201 online class, did you mention that you were thinking about taking chem 101 too ? I was just wondering if she thought it would be too much! I have already signed up for the same 201 section that you are in and I am thinking about taking both but I don't want to overextend myself this summer...it is supposed to be summer right? :)
