Currently, in an LVN program and thinking about post-graduation because it's never too early to decide what you want to do with your nursing career right? With that said, I'm wondering if I should go with an On Campus BSN program or go the Online route. I know there are some fully accredited BSN programs out there just having trouble deciding if I should go with the On-Campus or Online route? Any suggestions would gladly be appreciated. Thanks

I started out as a RN with an Associates degree, then obtained my BSN online, thus I have no clue what all ur requirements are. But I can say I enjoyed doing school online....but one has to be focused and be self motivated. 1 way I look at it..it takes time to get the campus...thus if I did it online there is like 2 hours I just saved (1 hr each way to school) 1 can get a lot accomplished in 2 hours. When I did my ADN, I found a lot of time was waisted in lecturer by people asking stupid questions....was very obvious they had completed none of the reading, thus a stupid question, lol I found on my online studies..I could read in peace and if I had questions, I could still email the prof. Then again, some people learn better being in a classroom environment and need to be around others. So no 1 can really answer your question...YOU need to ask yourself, what is the better learning environment for YOU. Best of luck

If you are going from LVN to BSN/RN, then you need to do campus. That's a big jump and learning curve and you will have many questions. But if you are going from RN-BSN, then online
Thanks for the great answers. This gives me time to really consider the pros and cons of both.

I believe you can only get your BSN online if you have your RN license (after completing an ADN program). So the only way to get from LVN to BSN is on campus. You could do LVN to RN then to BSN
Some universities that provide programs online have a Pre-Licensure, Generic Entry, RN-to-BSN and two have LVN to BSN but then I'm also looking to the traditional BSN programs.

I found that online schooling is harder. What I mean by that is it seems that you always have to "prove" that you are studying or working on your school work. There are a lot more assignments and projects due. Whereas with on-campus schooling there maybe assignments and other projects but for the most part you go to school, take notes, pass and exam and that is it. The professors are a great resource and provide a lot of helpful information. They always seemed to guide me to the relevant information in the textbook. I completed my BSN in a class room setting and love it. I did my MSN (for leadership) online and loved it. Now I'm completing my DNP/NP online and really wish I was able to do the NP classes on campus. Typically I am given an assignments to read 400 pages then there is a test at the end of the week. It is so hard to pick out what is important that I wish there was more guidance from a professor. Depending on your schedule and schools in your area if given the choice I would do an on-campus program. But if you hard to do an online program there are still many great one to choose from but you will likely be paying more for your education and it will require a lot more work.

I see you are in California based on your posting history. Be mindful that the California Board of Registered Nursing does not accept online LVN to RN or online LVN to BSN programs under any circumstances anymore.
Therefore, a classroom-based LVN-to-BSN program is your only option unless you relocate outside of California.
